This is the sixteenth instalment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. They are pieces that look at the darker, sometimes seedier aspects of pro wrestling. Some involve assault, rape, sex, drugs and sometimes even murder. As with every piece, we do not condone nor do we condemn all the alleged involved.
Big Daddy Cruel?
Christmas Eve 2014…Kevin Nash was arrested at his home after getting into a physical altercation with his 18 year old son Tristen. According to the son, the two got into a heated argument about Tristen’s girlfriend. Kevin Nash then proceeded to throw down Tristen by the throat and made his son briefly blackout. Kevin Nash on the other hand tells a different story….he claims his son came into the home drunk and verbally and physically assaulted both him and his wife Tamara. Once Nash was arrested and taken away…Tristen continued fighting with his mother. Police was called again and Tristen was then arrested and taken away. Both father and son have since been released.
Blueprint for an Arrest
In 2006, ‘Blueprint’ Matt Morgan was arrested on charges of impersonating a police officer. According to some reports, a woman claimed that Morgan pulled her over to the side of the road and claimed to be a police officer. Those reports have since been refuted by many including Morgan who stated the woman in question cut him off on the highway and Morgan sped up to her and screamed out that she was lucky he was not a police officer.
Later that day, Matt Morgan ran a red light while on his way to the gym. A police officer pulled him over…ran his plates and realized that this was the same vehicle wanted in the initial incident of someone impersonating an officer…so Morgan was arrested. He was since released from jail.
Hulkamania was running wild…all over her
In 2012, a video emerged with Hulk Hogan engaging in sexual acts with his good friend Bubba ‘The Love Sponge’ Clem’s wife Heather. Bubba, a radio host and a former TNA interviewer…was apparently also in the video fully aware of his wife and friend’s interlude. When the video was leaked online….Hogan insisted the video was shot 6 years prior when he was still married to his ex wife Linda.
Hogan sued both the Clems and the website Gawker for leaking the video and “invading his privacy.” Bubba and Heather have since divorced as well….but Bubba claims the two are still close.
The video wasn’t the first sex scandal Hulk Hogan was involved with because in 2007, a friend of Hogan’s daughter Brooke….Christaine Plante….admitted to a torrid affair with Hulk while he was still married to Linda. The affair took place during filming of the Hogan’s Knows Best reality series on VH1.
“My relationship with Terry began at a time when Terry and Linda privately knew their marriage was ending. She had left him already, although no official papers had been filed. Terry is a good man, good father and a good friend, and he and I grew close at a time when he was going through a very difficult period. It seemed right then, but I know it was wrong. Having felt the guilt and pain build up, I gave a note to Brooke apologizing for my actions. I will never be able to fully forgive myself for this. I have lost an amazing friend.”
It was this admission that led Linda to officially file for divorce from the Hulkster.
Stars and Prison Stripes
‘The Patriot’ was portrayed by a wrestler named Del Wilkes. He competed in such promotions as the GWF, AWA and WWF. Under the stars and stripes mask, Wilkes gimmick was that of a proud American. Away from the ring, however, Wiles was battling something more sinister than your average heel. Del Wilkes was an addict…hooked on pain pills, muscle relaxers and cocaine. He had a 150 pill a day drug habit.
His addiction led to 20 arrests in nearly a 10 year span. Most arrests involved him illegally obtaining his drugs…but also led to a domestic battery charge for striking his wife. Wiles readily admits his addiction was the cause of all of his legal problems. In 2002, Wilkes was arrested for forging prescriptions and was sentenced to a 9 month jail term.
Fortunately, Del Wilkes says he is now 100% clean and sober and has since retired from pro wrestling is now a car salesman in South Carolina.
Buff is the Stuff…that gets Roughed up Or Stand Back there’s an ice bottle coming through
After the WWE bought out WCW in 2001, the WWE requested that many of the WCW wrestlers that came over in the deal train with Dory Funk Jr in Connecticut to learn the WWE style. This was before the WWE put in a developmental system that they have now. During one of the rigorous training sessions…Buff had allegedly sat out because he was injured. Shane ‘Hurricane’ Helms took exception to Buff sitting out and words were exchanged. Buff came back and said that Helms would never be the star he was in wrestling and Helms took a bottle of ice water and hit Buff in the back of his head.
The two got into a physical altercation afterwards which apparently had Helms besting Bagwell before being broken up. When word of the fight got back to Vince….Buff Bagwell was released from the company as many felt he was the true instigator.
