Tonight is the night of Extreme Rules. The annual event where, on the face of it, the WWE loosen its grip on PG. In reality, we get watered down gimmick matches with the main event this year featuring WWE Champion Seth Rollins taking on Randy Orton within the confines of a steel cage. Read our thoughts on that match and the rest of the card here.

Pre-show: Tyson Kidd and Cesaro (c) vs. The New Day (Big E and Kofi Kingston) (with Xavier Woods)

Jamie: The action will be good in this one and I’m quite intrigued by both teams too. Last month I couldn’t have cared less, but both teams appear to be in the middle of a face/heel turn. Shame this isn’t on the main show really, it’s a shite sight more appealing than the next match…

Winners: Tyson Kidd and Cesaro

Brian: As much as I hate to say it…I think New Day is getting a big push. Look for New Day to win the tag team titles here and officially turn heel on Monday Night…just a guess.

Winners: New Day

Craig: In agreement with Jamie and Brian’s points, this should be a good match and the New Day are being pushed. It would be a pity if Cesaro and Kidd’s reign was ended on Sunday, I’d like to see them given more time. I also think there’s plenty of scope left in a feud between these two pairings. After all, there’s not much else out there tag team wise.

Winners: Kidd & Cesaro

Chris: Poor old Big E – from the IC title, cast down into The New Day. Still, WWE are trying a different tact with them, which leads me believe that they might leave with the titles on the night. Not that I think they deserve to, mind.

Winners: New Day

WWE Divas Title Match: Champion Nikki Bella vs. Naomi

Jamie: Isn’t Naomi a heel now? Awful, just awful. How many times will WWE book the same women in matches against each other? Where’s Charlotte? Where’s Bailey? Where’s Sasha Banks?

Winner: Nobody, we all lose if this match goes ahead

Brian: Naomi gets a push and wins the Divas title. She’ll hold the belt until Paige comes back from filming a movie.

Winner: Naomi

Craig: No interest in either of these performers or the match itself.

Winner: Naomi

Chris: Not interested. NXT has the real divas.

Winner: Nikki Bella

Chicago Street Fight: Dean Ambrose vs. Luke Harper

Jamie: This could be a really good fun weapons match. Not sure why these guys are fighting though…

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Brian: Could be good or could be a train wreck. I’ll say it will be entertaining. Not a classic..but decent.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Craig: If Daniel Bryan’s Intercontinental reign is coming to an unfortunate end, I’d like to see Ambrose positioned as a natural successor. But for that to happen he requires a push and some high profile wins. A victory in this match, which will surely be an over the top brawl, will get those wheels in motion.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Chris: The lack of build up or even a legitimate reason for them to feud detracts from this slightly. Could possibly be the typical Ambrose brawl (I do think its time he brought something new to the table to freshen things up) but still, an Ambrose brawl is still usually an entertaining brawl. I actually like Harper, but think Ambrose will win here.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

“Kiss My Arse” Match: Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler

Jamie: Finally, Sheamus has freshened up his act. What a shame I still find him dull as fuck. What’s worse is that I feel sure that he’ll win this one. Ziggler is being used to make him look good. The only hope for Ziggler is that a match with this type of stipulation is crying out for a babyface win.

Winner: Sheamus

Brian: Is there any doubt that the repackaged Sheamus WON’T win?!?

Winner: Sheamus

Craig: Like the others, can’t see past a Sheamus win here. Shame it’s Ziggler that’s being sacrificed but I sense we’ve found his position in the grand scheme of things.

Winner: Sheamus

Chris: Ziggler has become the new Ric Flair without the prestige, glory or (to be fair to flair) the talent of the man at his peak. What I mean is, Ziggler is the go to man to make others look amazing. Hence why the repackaged Sheamus will win here, and will probably look great doing so, all thanks to Dolph. Cena, take note of the unselfishness.

Winner: Sheamus

WWE United States Title Russian Chain Match: John Cena vs. Rusev

Jamie: Given that John Cena’s new t-shirt features the US Title I shall be backing him to win any and every match for the next several months…

Winner: John Cena

Brian: Believe it or not…I expect this match to be pretty good. I’m no Cena fan..but I have really enjoyed the US Open challenges every week and I hope that continues.

Winner: John Cena

Craig: This should be alright. At least a Russian chain match is a bit different ad seems a natural par of the feud, rather than most of the gimmick matches on this card. Rusev seems to be benefiting from feuding with Cena which, in reality, is not the norm. That said, I really can’t look past Cena keeping his belt here.

Winner: John Cena

Chris: The US title open challenges have been a great idea and, if Cena took a lesson from Flair, could be used to put potential new stars over without impacting his credibility. Still, this match could be decent if Rusev’s fury comes to the fore. No doubt of a Cena win here.

Winner: John Cena

WWE Intercontinental Title Match: Daniel Bryan vs. Bad News Barrett – TENTATIVE based on Bryan’s condition

Jamie: Like John Cena, why would Bryan win a title only to drop it back to the guy he won it from a few weeks later? Seems pointless. Bryan’s physical health may have a bigger impact on the result of this match though, if it even goes ahead.

Winner, and once again IC Champion: Bad News Barrett

Brian: I have my doubts that this match will take place. Daniel Bryan is hurt…but if it does….D-Bry will win…unless his injuries are worse than expected.

Winner: Daniel Bryan

Craig: Is the IC actually jinxed or something? Joking aside, it’s sad to see such concerns over Bryan’s health. If this match takes place, I’d be staggered if the night didn’t end with a new champion. The biggest worry, though, is the long term future of Daniel Bryan. I’d rather the title held up and there was a tournament held to crown a new champion, perhaps culminating at Payback. Got to be better than Barrett playing the jobber IC Champ again, right?

Winner: Wade Barrett

Chris: If Bryan wrestles, then I can’t see him losing. If he is injured, then its a real shame for the guy. I really do hope for the former than the latter.

Winner: Daniel Bryan

Last Man Standing Match: Roman Reigns vs. Big Show

Jamie: Roman Reigns wins, no?

Winner: Roman Reigns

Brian: I really don’t give a shit…but Roman Reigns will win

Winner: Roman Reigns

Craig: Is there a circumstance that Reigns doesn’t win here? If there is, I can’t think of it.

Winner: Reigns

Chris: A nothing feud will potentially lead to a nothing match here. Reigns for the win.

Winner: Roman Reigns

WWE World Heavyweight Title Steel Cage Match (RKO is Banned, Kane is Cage Door Keeper): Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton

Jamie: If a swerve is blatantly obvious, can it still be called a swerve? I really hope something more interesting than Kane screwing Orton happens. I assume Triple H will also show up, to make sure his plan goes off without a hitch.

Winner: Seth Rollins

Brian: Kane will be the X factor in this match. I see him helping Seth Rollins win…but turn on Seth either that night or on Monday. It’ll set up Seth’s next title defence against the “monster” Kane.

Winner: Seth Rollins

Craig: Brian’s outcome is probably exactly what will happen. After all, it must be time for Kane’s annual title match that he doesn’t deserve.

Winner: Seth Rollins.

Chris: It doesn’t give me optimism for the summer that Kane has been put in such a prominent position. There are far more deserving guys of being in this position. One of two things will happen here: Kane will turn on Rollins, leading to a feud between them, or (more likely), the whole thing will be a swerve on Orton. It takes away from the real selling point: Rollins may have one the title at WM but he couldn’t beat Orton. This would have allowed for Rollins to prove himself here with a hard fought victory. He’ll still win, but the Kane angle takes away from the match for me.

Winner: Seth Rollins

Overall:

Jamie: I envisage a good show with some good matches. I’m just finding it hard to care about it when I have already seen all of these matches, within the last few months too. I also don’t have strong feelings about the outcomes of said matches either. In a word…”meh”.

Brian: Not at all excited about any particular match. I just hope it is watchable.

Craig: I’m no fan of these gimmick PPVs and my excitement for Sunday isn’t enhanced by the fact that I’ve seen most of these matches played out several times already. I’m ambivalent to this one too.

Chris: An unimaginative, conservative card. Not impressed (and no Neville, although this might work out in the long run if he’s not pushed down our throats.)
