This is the 35th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin’ series. A group of stories that delve into the darker and seedier side of professional wrestling. Many of these stories involve sex, drugs, backstage politics, arrests and sometimes even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series…I do not condone nor do I condemn the alleged involved.
Doink’s Little Dink
Have you ever wondered about the origins of how ‘Dink the midget clown’ came to be? No? Well I’ll tell you anyway….According to Matt Borne, when he was in the WWF portraying the role of ‘Doink the Clown’….Steve ‘Skinner’ Keirn decided to play a joke on Borne and the rest of the locker room. He took some of the face paint and a piece of the green wig Doink used and decided to make himself up.
The only caveat was it wasn’t Steve Keirn’s face that he was putting the make up on….it was his penis. That’s right, Keirn made his penis up to look like Doink the clown. Immediately, the boys in the locker room were calling Keirn’s penis….’Dink.’ Fast forward to a few months later and Matt Borne was fired from the WWF for repeated drug offenses. The new Doink..portrayed by Ray Apollo…got himself a sidekick named…you guessed it Dink! No word where Wink and Pink came from….
I Got Two Words For Ya…..F@ck It!
In 2008 while living and working in Mexico, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman was drinking heavily and battling drug addiction. One day, he and his live in girlfriend…Alicia Webb (Formerly Ryan Shamrock in the WWE) got into a physical altercation. Waltman punched Alicia and knocked her out across the room. Riddled with guilt over hitting his girlfriend…Waltman took a full bottle of Valium to end his life.
When that didn’t work, X-Pac took a garden hose and hung himself from the roof of his apartment complex. Alicia found X-Pac hanging and was able to get him down and called paramedics. It took about 45 minutes for the EMT’s to arrive and when they did…X-Pac was clinically dead. After CPR and a rush to the hospital…X Pac was on life support for the next three days. After his recovery…X-Pac was sent to a psychiatric hospital for four months.
Big Mac Attack
In the late night hours of April 6th, 1984, AWA wrestlers Ken Patera and Masa Saito went to a local Wisconsin McDonald’s. When they were denied service due to the fact only the drive thru service was available…Patera allegedly threw a big rock at the window smashing it. Patera still claims that he never threw a rock or boulder through the window…it was a disgruntled former employee.
Either way, police were called and questioned both Patera and Saito at their motel room. It was then that Patera and Saito got into a physical altercation with the two officers…(one of which was a woman) The two officers were allegedly hurt and more officers were called to scene. Saito and Patera allegedly continued fighting off the police until they were finally detained.
About a year later, Patera and Saito were found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison. They were able to get their sentences reduced to 18 months after good behavior.
A Son of A Dun……dee
Jamie Dundee is the son of Memphis legend Bill Dundee and is no stranger to controversy or scandal. Jamie has wrestled for ECW, WCW and the WWE as well as several territories across the country. The things that the second generation wrestler has done and seen can take days to write up on. He readily admits to growing up drinking alcohol and doing drugs.
While wrestling for the USWA…Jamie says he use to transport pounds of marijuana from Dallas, Texas to Memphis, Tennessee by stashing it on buses. He also tells a tale as a youngster witnessing wrestlers Jeff Jarrett and wrestler/referee Frank Morell having sex with former WWE, WCW and TNA wrestler Jacqueline Moore in the locker room showers before Jackie was famous.
Holla At A Playa
Back in the 1980’s during the Jim Crockett era in the NWA…then referee Teddy Long recalled an incident involving himself and promoter Jim Crockett Jr. After a show, Jim Crockett’s private jet landed to take certain individuals to the next town including Ric Flair and the Rock N Roll Express. Several JCP wrestlers were going in and out of the plane getting beer. Teddy Long went in to grab a beer and Jim Crockett with a surprised look on his face asked, ‘N____r, what do you think you’re doing?’
Jim Crockett allegedly also made Teddy drive from his home in Atlanta, Georgia to Charlotte, North Carolina to pick up a check for only $200 dollars. He also made Teddy drive from his home in Atlanta to Norfolk, Virgina…only to tell Teddy he wasn’t needed at the show and refused to compensate him for making the trip.
