This is the 49th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the sometimes darker side of professional wrestling. Many of these stories deals with such subjects as greed, lust, drugs and sometimes even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series…we do not condone nor do we condemn the participants in these alleged incidents.
Who’s Your Daddio?
Recently, a man claiming to be NXT trainee Gionna Daddio’s ex boyfriend alleges that while Daddio was training at the WWE’s Performance Center in Florida…she carried on an affair with pro wrestler Brian Kendrick. The ex claims that he and Gionna were dating at the time of the alleged affair, while Kendrick was/is married to former wrestler and WWE Tough Enough contestant Taylor Matheny.
According to the unnamed boyfriend, when he confronted Daddio about the affair…Daddio denied it until finally admitting her guilt that her and Kendrick had a couple of sexual encounters. To add another twist to this story…the ex boyfriend claims that Brian Kendrick and his wife were allegedly swingers and asked Gionna if her and her boyfriend would be interested in having a foursome. None of this has been confirmed or denied by Gionna or Brian Kendrick themselves.
You’ve Got the Brains..I’ve got the Braun..Let’s Make Lots of Money
In 2011, former WWE Divas champion Kaitlyn’s (Real name Celeste Bonin) husband Philip Braun was arrested for possession of several illegal steroids and prescription painkillers. The arrest came as a part of a large scale drug sting by Connecticut authorities. Braun was admittedly friends with the alleged drug kingpin that the authorities sought to arrest. Braun was released on $500,000 bond and agreed to drug education courses to avoid jail time.
This wasn’t the first time that Braun was involved in a controversy of sorts…he was also arrested for possession of Marijuana in 2010 and while this may not necessarily be a scandal…Braun posed for several gay sex websites in 2005.
Billy Jack-ed Up!
According to Dan Spivey…former WWF star Billy Jack Haynes was fired from the company after taking several pills on a flight and overdosing on them in 1988. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Charlotte, North Carolina to get Haynes much needed medical assistance. He was let go soon after the incident took place.
Billy Jack Haynes filed a class action lawsuit in 2014 against the WWE for its mistreatment of wrestlers and ignoring the seriousness of traumatic brain injuries while working for the company.
Nothing Adorable About Being Dangerous
Speaking of Dan Spivey, in 1986 while wrestling for the WWF….Spivey was involved in a vicious fight backstage in Hartford, Connecticut. After a house show match between him and ‘Adorable’ Adrian Adonis…in which Adrian gave Spivey a few stiff kicks, tensions began to rise. Spivey decided to return the favor in the match. After their contest was over…Adonis was livid and immediately looked for Spivey backstage.
When he found him in the locker room….Adonis charged Spivey, trying to take him down with an amateur wrestling move. Spivey was able to maintain his balance and proceeded to land several left handed punches to Adrian’s face. According to wrestlers like Dory Funk Jr. and the Honkytonk Man….Adonis was extremely battered and bloodied by the time the skirmish was broken up.
While neither wrestler was fired over the incident…Adonis’ tough guy reputation and ego was immediately put in check. His eye was swollen shut and needed to wear a carefully placed veil over his black eye to cover it up for the TV tapings. From that point on, Spivey was known as “Dangerous Dan….the Left Handed Man.” The nickname followed him to WCW where he was simply known as ‘Dangerous’ Dan Spivey.
