This is the 56th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that at times delves deep into the darker, seedier, underbelly of pro wrestling through the years. Many of these stories involve sex, drugs, greed, assault and sometimes even murder! As with all the stories in the Sin series…I do not condone or condemn the alleged actions of the participants and/or victims…just simply retelling their stories.
The Grizzly Details
Grizzly Smith was a wrestler from the 1960’s and 70’s who later became a road agent in WCW and booker in Mid South wrestling. Grizzly had five children in 2 separate marriages….three of which became pro wrestlers themselves. (Jake Roberts, Sam Houston and Rockin’ Robin) Throughout the years, some former wrestlers who competed with Grizzly in his era and even his own children have made some accusations towards the former wrestler turned booker.
Some former wrestlers have claimed that Grizzly always had an affinity for young, underage girls while traveling across the country wrestling. His daughter Robin Smith aka former WWF women’s champion Rockin’ Robin claimed she was sexually abused by her dad starting at the age of 6 years old. It went on for a few years until Robin’s mother suspected that something wrong was going on and confronted her daughter. Robin confessed to the abuse and was removed from Grizzly Smith’s care.
Jake Roberts also claimed he was sexually abused as well as verbally and physically by his dad. Jake also went a step further by claiming he was conceived out of rape. According to Jake, Grizzly was dating Jake’s future grandmother…when Grizzly had sex with her 12 year old daughter who got pregnant and gave birth to Jake.
Both Robin and Jake also accused Grizzly of raping their sister JoLynn Smith. According to Jake, JoLynn was repeated raped by Grizzly through the years and finally at 18 years of age…ran away and married a man who was over 30 years older than her. The man’s ex wife…in a jealous rage…allegedly kidnapped JoLynn and murdered her. The ex wife served 10 years on a kidnapping charge…but was never found guilty of murder due to lack of evidence. As for Grizzly, he died in 2010 at the age of 77. Keep in mind…these were just allegations and nothing was proven in a court of law or otherwise about the abuse at the hands of Grizzly.
Former TNA wrestler El Gran Apollo aka German Figueroa was traveling with his wife (Also a pro wrestler nicknamed Havana) in Puerto Rico. During their travels, Apollo and Havana got into a verbal dispute that led to Apollo twisting Havana’s arm and allegedly putting his hands around her neck. Havana sought refuge at a nearby police station and Apollo was eventually arrested.
After posting $8,000 bail, Apollo headed to court and eventually pleaded guilty to domestic abuse. He was ordered to attend mandatory domestic violence detour program for one year. The couple remained together after his release. This wasn’t the first time Apollo found himself in trouble…back in 2007 he was jailed for missing child support payments to his ex wife.
O’Shea can You See
Independent female wrestler Lucky O’Shea has been trained by the likes of Jesse Hernandez and TJ Perkins (TNA’s Suicide/Manik) When she isn’t pursuing a career in the squared circle….O’Shea is moonlighting doing soft core porn and fetish videos.
Lucky’s modeling stage name is “Crystal Clark” and she has done several photo shoots involving lesbian sex, foot fetishes and some solo stuff as well.
The Dog Days of Summer
In July of 1997, the ECW tag team of the Pitbulls…Anthony Durante and Gary Wolf were arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana and steroids. Durante and Wolf pleaded guilty and both received $2,000 in fines and court costs as well as three years of probation. The arrests subsequently ended their promising careers as rumors that WCW were about to sign them to lucrative deals before the scandal got out. WCW backed off and they remained in ECW as glorified jobbers for a period of time.
The tragedy didn’t end there for the Pitbulls as Anthony Durante and his wife were found dead of drug overdoses in 2003. Durante and his wife had been dead for over two days with their two children…a one year old son and an 8 month old daughter still in the house with them. Durante was just 36 years old at the time of his death.
