This is the 73rd installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker side of professional wrestling. Many of these stories involve such topics as sex, greed, drugs, arrests and sometimes even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, we do not condone or condemn the alleged involved. We are simply retelling these stories that have been told throughout the years.
The Road to Wrestlemania
The night before Wrestlemania 6 in Toronto, Canada, one half of the Rockers Marty Jannetty got drunk at a bar and met a woman. The woman wound up taking Jannetty home and the two had sex. Jannetty woke up the next day completely hung over and no clue where he was.
He took a taxi cab back to his hotel but his partner Shawn Michaels was already at the Skydome getting ready for the big show. Marty got a lift to the Skydome from a fan but the fan got a flat tire, so according to Jannetty, hitchhiked the rest of the way. Jannetty just made it to the show on time, but was completely hung over in their match against the Orient Express.
LeDoux’s and LeDon’ts
Former boxer turned AWA referee and pro wrestler Scott LeDoux was embroiled in a bit of a scandal back in 2007. A boxing promoter accused LeDoux of assaulting him at an event. LeDoux insisted the boxing promoter was drunk and made up the story. LeDoux would also be accused as the executive director of the Combative Sports Commission of accepting gifts to MMA events.
According to an investigation, LeDoux accepted over 18 tickets to MMA shows. While not a criminal offense, this would be considered a serious violation of ethic rules. LeDoux passed away in 2011 after a long battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Grand Master Felony?
‘Grand Master Sexay’ aka Brian Christopher Lawler is certainly not “too cool” to be above the law. In fact, the son of Jerry ‘the King’ Lawler has been arrested multiple times in the past for various offenses. He’s had arrests for Driving under the influence, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and failing to enter court ordered rehab.
Perhaps his biggest offense came in 2001, when Brian Christopher was arrested at an airport in Calgary, Alberta, Canada after being caught with a mixture of drugs including Marijuana, Cocaine and muscle enhancing drugs. After his arrest, the WWE suspended Lawler and eventually released him because of the offense. He did manage to get the charges dismissed against him, but was ordered to pay a $500 fine.
Despite Brian Lawler’s past indiscretions, he seems to have gotten himself back on the right path. He still wrestles and also speaks publicly to youngsters about his own troubled past.
Famed Mexican wrestler Saul Armendariz aka “Cassandro” has had quite the life in and out of the ring. He is admittedly an openly gay wrestler who has battled both fans and fellow wrestlers because of his lifestyle. He has been mentally, physically and sexually abused in his life because of his homosexuality.
To deal with the hatred, Cassandro turned to drugs to ease his pain and became addicted to crack. Cassandro was arrested multiple times because of his addictions. He was also stabbed once by an angry fan and other time by a rival wrestler who was apparently jealous of Cassandro’s growing fame inside the ring. He has since gone to rehab and is now clean and sober.
KHARMA is a B!tch
In early 2016, while TNA wrestling was on tour of the United Kingdom, a serious altercation occurred between Kia Stevens (Awesome Kong) and Reby Sky. Allegedly, Kia saw Reby Sky dressing in the Knockouts locker room and decided to grab Sky’s belongings and throw them out of the room. Reby then immediately left to tell someone from upper management.
When Reby returned, Kia Stevens allegedly assaulted Sky by grabbing her neck and choking her. TNA officials broke up the melee and Kia was sent home. She was eventually released after an investigation in the matter. If wondering why Kia did what she did, you need to go back to 2013.
The two women, for whatever reason, called each other out in interviews and social media. They called each other names like “Ho,” “Fake,” “Bitch” etc. It is believed that Kia Stevens threw Reby Sky’s belongings out of the dressing room until she received an apology. Which she never got. Instead, TNA handed her a release.
