Wrestling with Sin: Nine3

9-3

Brian Damage

This is the 93rd installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involves such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series…I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

How Swede it is

In 1975, the team of Rip Hawk and Swede Hanson took a relatively young wrestler named Ric Flair under their wings. While the trio were partying at a nightclub in Norfolk, Virginia, the 26-year-old Flair was styling and profiling on a beautiful young woman all night long. Swede Hanson recognized the woman as a girlfriend of a member of the mob named Al Denaro. Swede and Rip Hawk quickly warned Flair to walk away from the woman because it would lead to big trouble.

Flair being Flair, even at 26 years-old, didn’t listen to Swede or Rip’s warnings and took the girl back to his hotel room. According to Rip and Swede, the mobster found out about his girlfriend and Flair and sent a couple of his men to get her back and possibly “whack” Flair. Luckily, Swede and Rip knew the gangster and were on friendly terms with him and were able to talk the mobster to back off and they would take care of the young Flair themselves. Ric Flair’s life was spared that night by his mentors.

Gambling with a Great Career

ashura_hara

Ashura Hara was a Japanese pro wrestler whose most successful years were with All Japan Wrestling from 1981 to 1988. Hara was fired by All Japan in 1988 from the owner Shohei ‘Giant’ Baba. The reason is because he had run up large gambling debts and members of the Yakuza (Japanese mob) kept on showing up at All Japan shows looking to collect. Baba got tired of having such seedy individuals consistently interrupting his shows, so he fired Hara who was at the time…one of All Japan’s biggest stars.

Hara’s career never fully recovered after being let go by All Japan. After a long hiatus, Hara resurfaced on some smaller Japanese promotions until he finally retired for good in 1994.

Man Mountain Doc

Darryl Peterson aka ‘Man Mountain Rock’ didn’t last a year during his brief stint with the WWF but he certainly made quite an impact. Man Mountain Rock battled drug addiction and alcoholism, which would ultimately cost him his WWF job. While he was with the company, however, he used his video camera to film various WWF stars partying, doing drugs and having sex with prostitutes.

Peterson was going to use the footage and make a full-length documentary entitled, “The Thing that Should Not Be.” The documentary stalled when the WWF and a number of wrestlers on the tapes threatened him with legal action.

Snowfall

Former WWE, ECW and current TNA road agent Al Snow got a divorce from his second wife, former WWE developmental wrestler and former WWF Hardcore champion Cynthia ‘Bobcat’ Lynch. They married in 2009 and divorced in 2015 and it didn’t end on the friendliest of terms.

It turns out, at least according to Lynch, Al Snow cheated on her numerous times. Obviously distraught and upset, she took to social media and posted this on Facebook.

Al Snow has kept relatively quiet on the subject of his divorce. He is now currently engaged to a massage therapist and personal trainer named Jessica.

    • Why? Have you seen interviews with him? He genuinely seems like an aggressive, arrogant, bad tempered prick who comes across like he thinks he’s never done wrong and knows better than everyone else in the entire world. He’ll shit all over a bad gimmick while doing endless mental gymnastics to justify the ‘Head’ gimmick.

I don’t find it at all difficult to believe that such a self-centred individual is a shitty husband.

  1. There’s two sides to every story. Al seemed like a down to earth type of person but if he ain’t suing for slander or libel then….?
