Wrestling with Sin : 104

Brian Damage

This is the 104th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involves such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Break the Brawl Down

Firpo Zbyszko was a professional wrestler from the 1930’s to the 1960’s. He had the distinction of wrestling Rocky Johnson in Rocky’s very first match in 1964. After his active career wound down, Firpo became a referee.

In 1971, while at a bar in Phoenix, Arizona, two drunk men got into a brawl. Firpo a trained wrestler and referee tried to get between the two men and break up the fight. One of the men pulled out a switchblade and stabbed Zbyszko. He was rushed to the hospital and died of his stab wound while on the operating table. Firpo Zbyszko was just 53 at the time of his death. No word on whatever happened to his killer.

Former TNA Knockouts champion Jade aka Mia Yim aka Stephanie Bell revealed she was in an abusive relationship with another wrestler in her early days with TNA wrestling. According to Jade, her ex-boyfriend used to choke her if he didn’t like something she did or said. She went to court and got an order of protection against him.

The unnamed wrestler boyfriend was then no longer booked in TNA. People have speculated who the wrestler is but considering that his name was never mentioned by Jade, he will remain anonymous.

Atsuhi D-Onita Excuses for Sex

The father of Japanese hardcore wrestling and the founder of Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW), Atsushi Onita was/is an admitted sex addict. During the early 2000’s Onita was elected to Japan’s House of Councilors.

His political career was marred by a stinging sex scandal. It was alleged that Onita used government funds to engage in the threesome with a Japanese porn star and a female member of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation. The scandal made headlines and forced Atsushi Onita to resign from his political seat in government.

Test Pattern

Andrew Martin aka “Test” in his days with the WWE…was arrested twice in just an eight-month span for DUI’s. He was booked and released the next day after posting bail on both occasions. Test would have his driver’s license revoked.

In March of 2009, neighbors noticed through the window that Test was motionless for hours on his couch. Police responded to find his door locked, so they scaled up the condo and through a window to find Test was dead. He had accidentally overdosed on the painkiller drug Oxycontin. Andrew ‘Test’ Martin was just 33 years old.

Big Bad Gone

Big Bad John was a wrestler from the 1960’s and early 1970’s who wrestled for several territories across the United States and Australia. He was also a heel manager of a stable named ‘Big Bad John’s Army’ that consisted of members like King Curtis, Abdullah the Butcher, Mr. Hito and The ‘Mighty’ Quinn.

Big Bad John lived a hard lifestyle that included drinking and allegedly part of a motorcycle gang. Big Bad John was both shot at and stabbed during his career. The stabbing allegedly took place in California in 1978 and after that his health quickly declined. He died in 1980 at the age of 37 from liver disease brought on by alcoholism.

A Tire-d Marriage?

In November 1999, former member of the Four Horsemen Tully Blanchard was arrested for domestic assault. The assault was supposedly on his then wife Courtney. Details of this incident are extremely murky, but one story alleged that the couple got into an argument that spilled out onto their front lawn. Tully allegedly grabbed a tire iron from his car and struck his wife with it.

His wife refused to press charges and the couple would reconcile. Tully and Courtney would eventually divorce and Courtney would remarry none other than Tully’s long time in ring rival Magnum TA in 2005.

From Sandman to Wanted Man

Former ECW original James Fullington aka ‘The Sandman’ was wanted by the Delaware County Sheriff’s office in Pennsylvania for failure to pay child support and being over $8,000 owed in back payments. A warrant was issued for his arrest in 2013.
