This is the 113th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Back in the early 1980’s in Stu Hart’s Calgary Stampede territory, Bad News Allen teamed with a wrestler named the ‘Cuban Assassin’ aka Angel Acevedo. The two would become the best of friends outside of the ring with the Cuban Assassin even being the best man at Bad News Allen’s wedding. The two were almost like brothers at one point but that all changed once Bad News got married.
The best friends wives didn’t get along as well as the two wrestlers themselves and that started tension between Bad News and the Assassin. Their friendship deteriorated after a period of time. It got so bad at one point, that the Assassin once allegedly threatened Bad News Allen’s wife over the phone. One day the two couples met in a diner parking lot and this is when the story goes haywire.
Bad News remembered how the Cuban Assassin threatened his wife and the two former friends started getting into a physical altercation. During the melee, the Assassin pulled out a knife and slashed both Bad News and his wife. The police were called but by the time they arrived the Cuban Assassin and his wife had fled. As a matter of fact, the Cuban Assassin would not return to Calgary Stampede while Bad News Allen was still there.
Fast forward to 1988 and Bad News was signed by the WWF. During that time, the Cuban Assassin was offered a WWF tryout. When word got back to Bad News, he told friends that if he saw the Assassin he would kill him. Sure enough, Bad News spotted the Assassin entering the arena for his tryout and Bad News reportedly grabbed a metal camera tripod and went right after the Assassin. The Assassin saw Bad News charging him and pulled out his knife and the two began swinging wildly at each other.
The two had to be separated by several WWF officials. The end result saw the Cuban Assassin sent home and never getting his big opportunity. Bad News Brown got a slap on the wrist and remained with the company.
Marlon Pagtakhan (pictured above) was, at one point, an aspiring pro wrestler who briefly trained with Northern California’s All Pro Wrestling school. He was allegedly kicked out of the school due to bizarre behavior. Pagtakhan began stalking several of the wrestlers from APW threatening violence. He also cyber stalked a female wrestler named Rachel Collins aka ‘MsChif’ for well over a year.
Things finally came to a head when Pagtakhan showed up at his former wrestling school with a pair of boxing gloves challenging wrestlers to fight him. Pagtakhan was arrested and charged with 14 counts of stalking and three counts of felony threats. This wasn’t Pagtakhan first run in with the law, though, back in 1997 he was arrested for stalking actress Jeri Ryan. He would serve about 2 years in prison for that case. Bail was set at $800,000 and at last word was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial.
You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out Kid
Oh, what pro wrestlers will do when they get bored while on the road. Take Barry Windham and Steve Keirn who were traveling on the road together while down in Florida. Steve Keirn just purchased a new 9-millimeter handgun and he and Windham were bored. They both decided it would be a good idea to go around and shoot things like road signs, mailboxes etc.
The two were blasting away at inanimate objects all day long. That is until Keirn took a shot at something and while lowering his gun it accidentally went off, hitting Windham in the leg. Luckily, the bullet did not go in too deep, so Windham took out his pocket knife and cut the bullet out of his leg. To stop the bleeding Windham used his bandana and the two went about the rest of their day.
Independent wrestler Annie Social was trained by the likes of the late Trent Acid and ‘Pitbull #1’ Gary Wolfe. She has wrestled for several indie organizations like Shimmer, Jersey All Pro Wrestling and American Championship Pro Wrestling. She apparently applied to be a contestant on WWE’s Tough Enough in 2011 but wasn’t selected to be a part of the cast.
Aside from her wrestling career, Social has posed nude in some tasteful and sometimes extremely graphic photos. She has also wrestled nude in fetish videos.
Watts the Problem?
John ‘the Barbarian’ Nord and ‘Hacksaw’ Butch Reed were wrestling each other in the Mid South territory and they had a pretty bad match. When they came backstage, the two began arguing about who should’ve been calling the match. It got heated to the point where Butch Reed threatened to kick Nord’s ass. Nord initially backed down saying he wasn’t feeling well and the two could take this issue up next time. The Mid South promoter Bill Watts started “egging on” Nord not to back down and settle his problems now.
Nord and Reed began arguing again and the two started throwing punches. Some wrestlers tried to get in between them, but Watts stated that if anyone broke the fight up…they would be fired on the spot. The two wrestlers continued brawling with Bill Watts and others standing there watching. Some wrestlers have said that Butch Reed got the better of John Nord in the fight. Either way, after the fight ended, Watts apparently told both wrestlers…’Now that is how you should’ve fought in the ring today.’ According to former Mid South broadcaster Jim Ross, there was never another issue between the two men again.
