WWE Elimination Chamber 2018 Preview and Predictions

Brian Damage, Earl Marx and Benjamin Trecroci

Tonight, the WWE hosts Elimination Chamber 2018, a show which will firm up some of the matches which will feature at WrestleMania 34 in April. Ahead of the show, Brian, Earl and Benjamin share their thoughts and predictions on the card.

Singles match
‘Woken’ Matt Hardy vs Bray Wyatt

Brian: This seems to just be thrown on the card as filler. Never the less, let’s just hope they start moving this feud forward and start adding some much needed wrinkles to it. It has potential, so let’s start seeing it.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

Earl: So we are still doing this feud huh? It’s been a little underwhelming for me, but to each his own. It’s hard for me to grasp a direction with either of these gentlemen, so it’s tough for me to gauge who needs this win more. I think Bray has had a few moments where he’s gotten the upper hand. Might be time to switch it up

Winner: Woken Matt Hardy

Benjamin: Sigh. Going to add this to the endless list of WWF/E screwups. Why they haven’t gone buckwild with these two is beyond me. Go to the Wyatt Compound, stop at the House of Hardy, just go nuts! I’ll give this another chance but they blew their shot with something hot with Matt Hardy. Think the Woken one walks away with a win here.

Winner: Matt Hardy

Raw Tag Team Champions Cesaro & Sheamus vs Titus O’Neil & Apollo

Brian: I am really not sold on Apollo and Titus as a tag team. This really feels like a big waste of time that they could use with another tag team. Cesaro and Sheamus should win this one easily.

Winners: Cesaro and Sheamus

Earl: No need to take the titles of sheamus and Cesaro. They just got them back.

Winners: Sheamus and Cesaro

Benjamin: Lately, Apollo has been seen as an actual superstar and getting over with the fans. Now I’m not sure if they are going to go anywhere with him and Titus though. So Sheamus and Cesaro will keep the titles here and probably slide into a multi-team match at WM.

Winner: Sheamus & Cesaro

Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson vs. Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas

Brian: Speaking of waste of time…why even bother putting this on the show? I’m happy Bo and Curtis are getting a match…but were the Revival already booked up?

Winners: Gallows and Anderson

Earl: Yeah…good Ol’ Bo…good ol’ Curtis. Not much coming from this one.

Winners: The (Balor) Club Boyz

Benjamin: Not really sure where this one came from, but like all four of these guys. The Good Brothers looked like they were getting back on track as the formidable tag-team they were but not sure if this the feud to get to them back to the top.

Winners: Gallows & Anderson

Singles match (if Jax wins she will be added to Asuka’s championship match at WrestleMania 34)
Asuka vs Nia Jax

Brian: I don’t see any possible way Nia Jax wins this thing. It’s just an excuse to add Nia to the show and give Asuka another victory continuing her undefeated streak.

Winner: Asuka

Earl: I really hope this is match of the night. Yes – I realize I could get murdered for saying that, but I remain a Nia Jax fan and believe she can be more than just the bridesmaid. I believe this one will be intense and hopefully have some pretty stiff moments. As much as I love Nia, however, the streak shouldn’t end here….not yet. Asuka’s greatest challenge still awaits her.

Winner: Asuka

Benjamin: Can’t see Asuka losing her undefeated streak here, but maybe could see her losing by DQ by not releasing the Asuka lock which would give Nia the shot at WM and make Asuka look relentless. Should be a good matchup. Nia is very underrated and Asuka knows she’s a main event player.

Winner: Nia (via DQ)

Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Raw women’s championship
Alexa Bliss (c) vs Bayley vs Mandy Rose vs Mickie James vs Sasha Banks vs Sonya Deville

Brian: I think we will see a pretty good match with a possible heel turn for Sasha Banks. I don’t see anybody other than Alexa Bliss winning this match.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

Earl: Wow. I do not want to state or come off in a manner that does not believe the women can achieve the tough feat of carrying this kind of match. I think they can, but they have to create a pace that works for them. From a story perspective, the match was made and the story was then built around it. Has it made for the strongest path to this match for me? No. But we’re here. And I think the ending to this match will be….blissful. Do you know who I’m picking? Of course you do.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

Benjamin: Who would’ve thought the women would’ve ever had an elimination chamber match?!? Could really see Sonya and Mandy shining in the match and less seen as Paige’s lackeys. Bayley and Sasha might have a knock-down drag-out battle that gives both of them an edge. The likely story here is Alexa Bliss turning her back on Mickie James again and taking advantage of the match and edge out all the girls and sneak out with the title.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Universal Championship match at WrestleMania 34
Braun Strowman vs Elias vs Finn Balor vs John Cena vs Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins vs The Miz

Brian: The WWE creative “geniuses” can add 10 more people to this Elimination match and the outcome will still be the same. Roman Reigns will win it because…that’s who they pegged since last year’s Wrestlemania. Let’s just hope the match is decent because the outcome will surely leave many WWE fans disappointed.

Winner: Roman Reigns

Earl: I am not a fan of 7 people being in this match. But…I almost can acknowledge that this should be fun even with a seventh man. If you look at the mix of people in this contest, it’s something for everyone. From a story perspective (and a fan perspective), I only see one man able to conquer this feat…and it happens to be his first time inside the chamber. Yessir!

Winner: Roman Reigns

Benjamin: Well, here we go. Is this the inevitable Roman Reigns win to punch his ticket to WM? Not really sure how Braun is going be eliminated considering how hot he’s been. Likely going to come down to Reigns and Cena with Roman walking away with the win. But…what about Seth “Freaking” Rollins?

Winner: Roman Reigns

Brian: Eh, what’s there really to be excited about? We already know Roman goes over, the women’s Elimination chamber match might be okay…depending what they do…Asuka wins and a contract signing with Rhonda Rousey…big whoop!

Earl: Why am I just not sure about this ppv? No – it’s not that I have this issue with the product that many others have. I think…we could have done the chambers a little differently. I don’t doubt that the men’s will deliver. I do wonder if the women’s will deliver, but I commend them for taking the challenge. I think we have a pretty good time here although the build has been lackluster. PS – if I were booking, The Miz would be defending that IC title and wouldn’t be in the chamber, but it’s obvious they want him to be IC champ heading into Mania.

Benjamin: While this show should have some very good action, there’s not a lot of storyline intrigue. Feel like this is just a holding pattern PPV to get out of the way and head towards WM.

  1. I’m really, really hoping for some kind of swerve (a good one too) just so Reigns isn’t the inevitable winner. Buuut……then there’d be shenanigans, like the EC winner being forced to defend that title shot on Raw the next night or right before WM, so that Reigns would get the title shot against Brock.
For Cena, I’m curious if the Undertaker does indeed show up to cost Cena, or his music and lights appear, and do the distracting, thus eliminating Cena and setting up their WM feud.
Hopefully everyone looks strong at the end of this, especially Strowman, Ballor and Elias, as well as continuing Rollins’ momentum.
I’d also like to see the beginning of the rumored Miz/Ballor feud. If booked right, that’d be a hell of an IC title match @ WM.

Curious to hear how brutal the women’s EC match will be. Obviously it won’t be as rough and violent as the men’s version, but hopefully it’ll be worth it nonetheless.

The Woken/Bray thing really is wasted by now. Too many missed opportunities. Damn waste.
