Letters from a Lowlife
The MORNING AFTER
I’ll start my first piece introducing myself, and sharing something that will hit home to many, especially anyone chasing this wild dream called professional wrestling.
My name is Luis Ramos, and for the last 20+ years I have been know to the world as Lowlife Louie. A professional wrestler based out of Brooklyn NY. Mostly known for my penchant for blood and violence, I have wrestled any style imaginable, against opponents as varied as Abdullah the Butcher and Terry Funk, to Matt Tremont and Jeff Cannonball, to my trainer LAX member Homicide, to Norman Smiley and the WWE’S own Curt Hawkins.
Wrestling in high school gyms, VFW halls, Elks Lodges and wrestling gyms (just to name a few places) is always great. Riding to the show, sharing stories in the car, spending hours together creates the brotherhood this industry was built on.
Going out there ,giving every fan their money’s worth and getting your name chanted is a feeling that can not be duplicated, I have done many, many crazy things in this life, but none can give you the rush of being out in the ring.
But here is what always gets me. And were it’s tough. The morning after. As I write this I’m having one of those morning after moments . After all that cheering, that adoration, that adrenaline rush…what’s next..I’ll tell you what’s next.
The fact of the matter is, that unless you are on television, or have been a viable TV commodity ,odds are you are taking your beaten ,tired and in my case bloodied body out of bed at 3am, dragging it to your “regular” job and spending the rest of the day thinking about the next match, the next booking ect….it’s not easy to just turn it off. As a matter of fact it sucks.
But here is my advice to any one of the boys , young and old….embrace it. Own it. It just shows the outside world that were not just some guy that can’t do anything else. We are tough, hardworking ,honest, responsible and reliable. Traits that will get you ahead not just.in life, but in wrestling as well. So just stay positive, smile and tackle it head on. As hard as the morning after…you are harder than that.
A really cool looking painting of Asuka.
The early days pre Hillbilly Jim when he was known as Harley Davidson
The late, great Dusty Rhodes dropping knowledge on the future stars of NXT
A rather odd photo of Jinder Mahal and the former “Fake Razor Ramon” Rick Bognar
Mickie James looks better with age
How’s this for a wedding?
Raw and Smackdown have to do a lot less of this…
