Wrestling With Sin: 170

Brian Damage

This is the 170th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Pasta La Vista Baby

Hulk Hogan is no stranger to lawsuits and scandals and in 1996 a woman named Kate Kennedy accused Hogan of sexual assault. The alleged assault occurred just two days before the launch of WCW’s Monday Nitro program in September of 1995. Kennedy was a publicist for Hogan’s failed restaurant endeavor called ‘Pastamania.’ She alleged that she met Hulk at the Marriott Hotel in Bloomington, Minnesota to talk business.

During the course of their meeting, Hogan allegedly became rough with Kate Kennedy and allegedly forced his penis into her mouth. According to Hogan, Kennedy’s lawyer sent legal papers to his home demanding a written apology to be published in USA Today, complete a sexual rehabilitation class and, lastly, pay her one million dollars. Hulk Hogan went on to sue both Kate Kennedy and her attorney accusing them of extortion.

The case was eventually settled out of court and no details were ever released about the settlement. What we do know is, the scandal nearly ended his marriage to wife Linda. He admitted that the scandal affected his marriage severely and it was never the same after it. The couple would ultimately divorce in 2009.

A Callous Act

The Road Warriors have been known in their history to work “stiff” on their opponents. Especially, if they feel the people they are in the ring with are young and unproven. Such a situation happened during a match pitting the Road Warriors versus the Skyscrapers. Hawk and Animal were especially roughing up a youngster by the name of ‘Mean’ Mark Callous, the future Undertaker, in the ring to see what he had.

Callous’ tag team partner, Dan Spivey took exception to the Road Warriors taking liberties on the youngster. Spivey, who already had a negative past history with the Warriors, had seen enough. Dan Spivey broke kayfabe and grabbed a steel chair at ringside and started violently and legitimately hitting the Road Warriors with chair shots. The Road Warriors and Dan Spivey had to be separated backstage before it escalated even worse. To Mark Callous’ credit, he never complained and took his “initiation” in stride.

Slinker the Drinker

Ron Slinker was a professional wrestler from the late 1970’s to the early 1990’s. He never did have a breakout career, as he mostly wrestled on the undercard of matches. The things Slinker were best known for is training a young wrestler named Flex Kavana (Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson) and giving Rob Szatkowski the name ‘Rob Van Dam.’ Ron Slinker was also the stepfather of former WWE star Dennis Knight aka Mideon.

Through most of his life, Slinker was battling alcoholism. The disease led him to be arrested on a number of occasions including aggravated battery, robbery, grand theft and conspiracy to deliver drugs. Slinker died from his alcoholism as he suffered liver failure. Ron Slinker was 62 years old.

Pop A Cop?

Former ECW wrestler New Jack claimed that Tammy Sytch aka Sunny asked him to kill her ex-boyfriend in 2011. Sytch’s ex, a New Jersey cop named John, apparently was caught cheating on Tammy and that put her through a deep depression. It got so bad that Tammy had no-showed a couple of appearances and even complained on social media about it. New Jack claimed that is when Tammy Sytch approached him. New Jack took to social media to reveal this claim by saying:

“Have these b-tches lost there f-cking minds or what? Tammy Sytch from wwe called me this past weekend asked me would I kill her ex boyfriend who is a cop in jersey, because he has abused her and beat the sh-t outta her for the past 5yrs.

“I’m sure y’all are finding this hard to believe, just like the other, but please believe it!I have a signing and a show in jersey this weekend and i will be staying at a hotel in jersey for two days, but believe this when I say it…I’M NOT COMING TO JERSEY TO TRY AND KILL A GUY(COP)FOR TAMMY OR NOBODY ELSE…WTF!!!

Tammy Sytch denied these allegations and called New Jack “a whacko.”

Takin’ it to the Streets

In the late 1970’s, Harley Race and Abdullah the Butcher had a match for All Japan Pro Wrestling. As was typical in Abdullah matches, the two wrestlers brawled all throughout the arena. This one time, however, both Race and Abdullah decided to take their match outside on the streets of Tokyo.

It caused a huge controversy in Japan that made the national news. Both Harley Race and Abdullah the Butcher were arrested and they were to be banned from ever returning to Japan. It took All Japan’s owner Shohei Baba to go before Japanese politicians and beg for their punishment to be reduced. It worked and both wrestlers were let off with a public apology.
