The WWE roster is filled with “superstars” at every level. There are the main roster guys who regularly appear on Raw and SmackDown, those who are used as glorified jobbers and those who are barely used at all. In this series of pieces, we will take an individual wrestler barely used and decide if they are worth keeping or should they be let go. Today we decide if we Book or Cook Bayley.
Craig: Poor Bayley. From super popular NXT superstar to fairly popular main roster star to now, largely, being lost in the shuffle.
Does her character need a reboot and is that ol’ blue eyes Babyface role no longer have a position in the WWE or does she just need to catch a bit of a break?
Let’s do it, team. Book or Cook for Bayley.
Benjamin: It’s really sad that she’s even being discussed as being cooked. But nonetheless, this is what WWE Creative and/or the WWE Universe has done to one of their hottest commodities down in NXT. Right now, Bayley’s image should be slapped on nearly every piece of merchandise. She should popular with little kids, teenage girls and even grown-ass men who loved her ascension as the top women in NXT. Instead, she’s sort of there. She’s not being “buried” but she’s also not in the MITB and she’s also not in the women’s championship chase.
It looked like maybe they were going to make her the female Daniel Bryan as “Just Not Championship Material” according to Stephanie McMahon, but they didn’t go full bore into that. Could’ve had Bayley use the backing Triple H in NXT against Stephanie, “Well your husband believed in me,” Oooooo! But no.
So what to do with Bayley in 2018? This so-called feud with Sasha was another missed opportunity. They could callback to their classic feud in NXT, etc. No way Bayley should be the heel, unless she completely changes her look and demeanor. I’m still a member of Hug Life, but they better do something major with Bayley sooner than later. BOOK.
Brian: Ah yes, Bayley, a darling down in NXT and now just there on Monday Night Raw. It was rumored that Vince McMahon had high hopes for Bayley when she first debuted, but he wasn’t exactly pleased by the WWE fans reaction to her and gave up. Although that is only a rumor…there may be some merit to it. She is WWE limbo and has been for quite some time. Would a heel turn and a repackaged look and gimmick work? Perhaps, but it shouldn’t have gone to that.
As Benjamin has said, Bayley had the perfect gimmick that should have been a marketing machine. Sort of the female version of New Day. Instead, Bayley is barely relevant on television and has become a punching bag to the Riott Squad. Is it too late for Bayley to recover? I say no, I think if they bared down and put a rocket on her back…she could still be a big star in WWE. She is one of the best workers they have and she legitimately seems to be happy doing whatever WWE asks of her. That to me is a true team player, so why not reward her for that? My verdict is to BOOK her.
Earl: Let me take a swing at this, as it’s been a while since I’ve been able to get in one 🙂
I’m voting to BOOK on this one. Bayley has the in-ring ability. She has the likeability. She has the face character…that YOU CAN”T WAIT TO HATE! I was actually telling this to a friend not too long ago. Yeah..I wouldn’t mind a Sasha Banks heel run on the main roster, but I think there is some character development and interest in a Bayley turn. Yes – I know we’d lose money on the easy marketability she currently has, but I am soooo interested in knowing what happens. What happens when Bayley stops giving out hugs to the kids? What happens when she wakes up and realizes Sasha really has been using her this whole time? What happens when Bayley stops acting like she’s clueless and starts doing what needs to be done to get ahead? I tell you what – we get some intriguing material if delivered right. I think some of her current main roster run slowdown can be contributed to the “NXT Effect” (we love you at Full Sail, but the rest of the world…still doesn’t know you like dat), but I very much so believe this is salvageable. We can rebuild her…we have the technology…BOOK!
Craig: It’s fair to say it’s difficult to disagree with much going on here and what’s been said – it’s a book from me too.
So, it’s an overall book from the team. What do you think? Leave your comments below.
