The WWE roster is filled with “superstars” at every level. There are the main roster guys who regularly appear on Raw and SmackDown, those who are used as glorified jobbers and those who are barely used at all. In this series of pieces, we will take an individual wrestler barely used and decide if they are worth keeping or should they be let go. Today we decide if we Book or Cook Chad Bable.
Brian: Chad Gable is a very talented wrestler. With that said though, he does seem to lack a bit of charisma. That is a must in the universe that is the WWE. Gable has been off of Raw television for what seems like a couple of months. Is it a question of there is nothing for him creatively or there is an injury we are not aware of?
Right now, it appears that creatively there is nothing for him. That is sad, considering his overall talent. He is a great mat wrestler obviously with his amateur background and can fly in the ring if needed. Would Gable be better off someplace else or could he still be salvaged in WWE?
Craig: Ah, Chad Gable, the real victim in the Kurt Angle illegitimate son angle. From one-half of an over NXT tag team that made it to the main roster with high hopes and expectations to a guy lost in the shuffle.
As Brian alludes to, Gable is hugely talented in the ring but does severely lack anything in the way of charisma. I do, however, like him but I do wonder if he’s so far lost in the shuffle, and so many superstars have overtaken him, that he can’t be salvaged. I know that for every Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart there’s a Marty Jannetty and Jim Neidhart but the team of American Alpha didn’t even get far enough along for us to come to the point of working out who was who.
Can he be saved?
Benjamin: Chad Gable what to do, what to do? After seeing him on Raw this Monday I’m afraid that as much I’d like to book him. He might be cooked.
Gable seems to be in the Tyler Breeze camp. Very talented, but “creative has nothing for him” and that’s a shame.
When Gable was on Smackdown, he put on some clinics, including a great match against AJ Styles. So it’s not like he’s not talented.
Hoping once Jason Jordan returns maybe they can put them two back together. But we know tag teams aren’t very high on WWE’s radar.
There’s just too many top guys on Raw for someone like Gable to break the ceiling with the way things are set up for him.
So, unfortunately, it’s a COOKED by creative.
Brian: It’s a COOK for me also, unfortunately. Nowadays Gable is seen as an extra instead of an actual talent. A place like New Japan, Ring of Honor or Impact Wrestling would be lucky to have him and I guarantee you that he would thrive.
Craig: I totally, the phrase ‘creative has nothing for you’ so clearly applies to Gable here and, on many levels, that’s a sin. He’s a very good worker but it’s also abundantly clear that he’s not fancied by the powers that be and that’s his main downfall.
