Wrestling With Sin: 182

Brian Damage

This is the 182nd installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Cry Like A Canary

Jim ‘Crybaby’ Breaks was a professional wrestler who spent most of his career in Europe during the 1960’s to the 1980’s. His heelish gimmick was one who threw temper tantrums when he didn’t get his way in a match. Fans use to throw baby pacifiers at him when he was in the ring. Long after his retirement in July of 2017, Jimmy Breaks was arrested under the suspicion of murder.

The victim was his on and off girlfriend named Donna Cowley of England. Donna was reportedly a recovering alcoholic who often had a tumultuous relationship with Breaks. One time, she was sporting a black eye and told friends she was assaulted by the former pro wrestler. Jimmy Breaks had been diagnosed with the early stages of dementia.

The alleged crime occurred at Breaks vacation home in the Canary Islands. Donna Cowley was discovered beaten and bleeding on the bathroom floor. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she ultimately died from her injuries. She was just 47 years old. Jimmy Breaks was arrested and a homicide investigation has taken place. Breaks is currently in jail awaiting trial. He is 80 years old.

On the Brink of Stardom…Came Tragedy

Steve Bisson aka ‘Steve Bradley’ was once considered a five-tool wrestler who was destined to make it big one day. He was often compared to Rob Van Dam with a great amount of charisma. Bisson was signed to a WWE developmental deal in 1997 and won titles in each WWE developmental territory he wrestled in. Then shockingly, and inexplicably, Bisson was released by WWE in 2002.

Steve Bisson continued to wrestle on the independent scene and even opened up his own wrestling school in New Hampshire. Things began to really go in a downward spiral in 2008 when his school went out of business and he was arrested on a heroin possession charge. On the morning of December 4th, 2008, his body was discovered in his car in a parking lot adjacent to where his wrestling school was. New Hampshire police ruled out foul play and a toxicology report was inconclusive.

Did Bisson overdose on drugs? Did he commit suicide? It has never been revealed as far as I can tell. Steve Bisson was just 32 years old at the time of his death.

Kait’s Fate

Former WWE Divas champion Kaitlyn (Real name Celeste Bonin) admitted that she was once addicted to both drugs and alcohol. Bonin admits that she was a full blown addict before she reached the age of 30 years old. She was hospitalized due to her heavy drug use and when she was released from the hospital drank heavily to curb her addiction to drugs.

She then admitted that her life was an absolute mess and said that she “wanted to die.” In the middle of all of that, she went through a divorce from her husband. Thankfully, instead of suicide, she opted to get help and checked into a WWE sponsored rehabilitation center. She is currently over a year clean and sober.

You’re Next…On the List

The real-life hatred and heat between Bill Goldberg and Chris Jericho all started when Jericho and Goldberg were in WCW. Jericho had planned this elaborate angle with Goldberg that was getting over with the fans but Goldberg refused to be a part of it. Fast forward to 2003 and Chris Jericho was now a star for WWE. Bill Goldberg was signed and brought in to the company during this time.

Apparently, Goldberg was caught talking bad about Chris backstage to Kevin Nash. Word got back to Jericho, so he decided to confront Goldberg in the locker room. The two started yelling and screaming at each other and then Goldberg allegedly grabbed Chris by his throat. Jericho then placed Goldberg in a front face lock and took him down to the ground.

Christian and Hurricane Helms came in and tried to break the scuffle up. As they were holding back Jericho, Goldberg got up and grabbed Chris by his hair and the two had to be pulled apart yet again. When it was all said and done, Goldberg and Jericho sort of made up. Chris Jericho admits the two have been cordial with each other since the fight but he still harbors some resentment towards him.
