This the latest blog piece of pro wrestling facts, stats and useless trivia. Some of these you may know and some you may not. All in all, they are all just in fun. So as usual, sit back, relax and let’s all learn some stuff together….

The future 41st President of the United States of America…the late George Herbert Walker Bush coached baseball to Wahoo McDaniel in Midland, Texas. Bush remembered Wahoo by saying, “He was a good kid and a pretty fair baseball player. He has had his ups and downs, but I’ll always remember him as a wonderful kid who captured the imagination of West Texas in the 1950s. He was idolized by everyone who knew him.”

Japanese wrestling legend and founder of All Japan Pro Wrestling Shohei ‘Giant’ Baba initially pursued a career in baseball. He was signed to a contract by Japan’s biggest team the Yomiuri Giants at the age of 17 years old. Baba was a pitcher, whose career ended after falling out of a bathtub and injuring his throwing hand. He then trained to become a professional wrestler and the rest is history.

Dusty Rhodes was well known to use the masked gimmick of the ‘Midnight Rider’ whenever he was “suspended” or lost a loser leaves town match. A lesser-known masked gimmick that Dusty had was ‘Ulvade Slim.’ Ulvade is a town in Texas.

Former TNA and current independent wrestler/valet ‘Rebel’ Tanea Brooks is a former Dallas Cowboy cheerleader.

Smashing Pumpkins frontman and current NWA owner Billy Corgan attempted to purchase Extreme Championship Wrestling from Paul Heyman before it closed. Heyman refused Corgan’s offer and ultimately was bought by WWE.

Trish Stratus won the WWE Women’s championship for a seventh time in September of 2006. She would retire as champion the very same night.

Hulk Hogan and Sting have both been in the ring together for three of pro wrestling’s biggest shows: Starrcade, Bound For Glory and WrestleMania.

The first-ever televised match for TNA wrestling was the Flying Elvises versus Jerry Lynn, Low Ki and AJ Styles.

Chyna competed in several matches for New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2002.

Torrie Wilson was spotted at a WCW live event with her then-boyfriend in 1999. She was approached about doing a one night angle and she agreed. Her ring name was ‘Samantha’ and she was so well liked, they asked her to continue working for the company.

Before WWE’s developmental brand was called NXT, NXT wrestling was a promotion based in Scotland. It was run by a wrestler/promoter named Peter Murphy and it was established in 2007. WWE began using the name NXT in 2010. Ultimately, since Murphy had trademarked the name NXT, the WWE purchased the name from him for an undisclosed amount of money.

The faction SAnitY was originally conceived by Triple H in 2015 and was suppose to feature Solomon Crowe aka Sami Callihan as its leader. Callihan wound up leaving NXT and the gimmick was put on hold until the following year with Eric Young as the leader.

The Great Muta (Keiji Mutoh) has his own brand of curry perfectly named ‘Green Mist Curry.’

Ray Traylor was an actual corrections officer in Georgia while moonlighting as a professional wrestler. When the Department of Corrections were noticing Traylor taking a lot of time off to pursue his wrestling career, he was given an ultimatum. Either choose his secure corrections officer job or wrestle. We all know what he chose from that point on.

In the history of the WWWF/WWF/WWE championship, only three masked men held the title. They being Kane (The first), Mankind and Rey Mysterio (the last)

The newest WWE title cost around $50,000 to design and create.

Dolph Ziggler’s (Nic Nemeth) younger brother Ryan Nemeth was once signed under a WWE contract. His ring name was ‘Briley Pierce.’ Ryan was released by WWE in 2013.

Before her career in pro wrestling, CJ Perry aka Lana was a spokesperson for Red Bull Energy drinks.

The Bludgeon Brothers masks were designed by horror makeup artist Tom Savini. Savini worked on such horror classics as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead and a few Friday the 13th movies.

Before becoming “The Heart of WWE’s 205 Live” Mustafa Ali was a police officer in Chicago, Illinois.

New Japan’s IWGP Heavyweight title was defended on WCW Monday Nitro on two occasions.

The World’s Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) and the Hardy Boyz are the only two tag teams to win both WWE and Ring of Honor Tag team titles.

The character of Marlena in the WWF/E was named and partly based on the actress Marlene Dietrich and was the brainchild of Terri Runnels.
