It’s Saturday so time for the latest installment of ’This Week in Wrestling’, the 15th of 2019. Today, Brian talks about Cody Rhodes’ American Dream and shares all the best wrestling content from this week.

Cody Rhodes’ American Dream

Like it or not, Cody Rhodes has been one of the most talked about wrestlers not affiliated with the WWE. While Cody’s wrestling resume is impressive, it is now what he is doing outside of the ring ropes that has garnered not just talk, but a genuine excitement. Of course, I am talking about All Elite Wrestling….but it goes much deeper than that.

Cody, the son of the legendary ‘American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes seems to want to bring back Dusty’s legacy to full strength. He has filed trademarks for his father’s in ring name ‘Dusty Rhodes’ as well as ‘American Dream’ and has also filed trademarks for some of his father’s creations like Bash at the Beach, Battlebowl and Bunkhouse Stampede. On an interesting side note, the WWE’s trademark of the gimmick name of ‘Cody Rhodes’ expires in October of 2019. It could be possible that WWE will not renew the trademark for that name and Cody can obtain it back…although Cody has stated he has no desire to do so.

The biggest coup that Cody has seemingly done, however, hasn’t been a Dusty Rhodes created name, event or gimmick…it is something much more prevalent. Reports are circulating that Cody and AEW just may have secured a television deal with Turner Sports ie TBS and TNT respectively. Both are major players in the cable TV market and will help AEW generate a lot of eyes to their product.

I just can’t help but think that getting a deal with Turner goes deeper than just having a major cable outlet air AEW. The way Cody has operated through this whole process was try and reinvigorate his late father’s legacy. He has certainly done that and then some. Cody and AEW have shined a spotlight on the life and and career of Dusty Rhodes, probably even more than WWE has. To me personally, Cody has done so much, so far that we can only imagine how else he can pay tribute to his Dad.

In Cody’s eulogy to his father…Cody daid it best…

“Friends, family, colleagues and passer bys; tonight….when you lay your head against the pillow, don’t just have a dream. Have an American Dream.”

For those of you that were curious who played ‘Peggy Sue’ that escorted the Honky Tonk Man to the stage for the WWE Hall of Fame, it was a woman by the name of Jessie Eleban. She is currently training down in NXT.

Torrie Wilson is a Hall of Famer in my eyes…

  1. Torrie Wilson is more of a Hall of Famer than a wannabe country-rapper, a man fond of slapping nutz, and the douchebag at the White House. I hope AEW succeeds. Especially to give not just the WWE a run for their money but also to make other promotions think better as ROH has now lost me with the signing of a couple of no-talent bums.
