Wrestling With Sin: 220

Brian Damage

This is the 220th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Cake Boss

By the year 2000, World Championship Wrestling was going into a downward spiral. The business was down, many wrestlers were looking to get out of their contracts and others were acting like they were above all the rules. One of the biggest offenders was none other than Scott Hall. Hall was sent home and suspended multiple times during his WCW career.

“The Bad Guy” lived up to that nickname many times for arrests, public drunken displays, ignoring orders from management, etc, etc. The straw that seemingly broke the camel’s back was when WCW was on tour in Germany. Of course, Hall’s alcoholism was on full display with Hall getting into fights at bars, arguing with bookers and a being an all-around pain in the neck. It was one particular incident, however, that finally couldn’t be overlooked.

Scott got into a heated argument with his girlfriend at the time about his out of control actions while on the road in Germany. Hall and his girlfriend were seen yelling and screaming at each other and it ultimately resulted in Hall throwing cake at her. Considering everything Hall had done while in the company, this, by comparison, might have seemed tame by some. The thing was, his girlfriend Emily just so happened to be the niece of Brad Siegel, the then President of Turner Entertainment.

Once Siegel was informed of the incident, he refused to allow Hall to get on the WCW chartered plane back to the United States. Hall was pulled from all other shows and appearances for the company. The main issue that prevented Hall from being outright fired by Siegel was the fact he had an iron-clad, guaranteed contract with WCW.

While on the road with the World Wrestling Federation, Luna Vachon checked into her hotel room to get a good night’s sleep. The problem was, in the room right next to hers was a bunch of college students having a party. Initially, Luna tried to ignore all the loud noise the rowdy college kids were making. As the hours went by, however, Luna had reached her breaking point.

Luna allegedly went on her hotel balcony and scaled across it to the balcony next door. Luna then allegedly went into the college kids room and allegedly assaulted one of the party goers. The police were called and Luna was ultimately arrested at the hotel. She was eventually released without incident later that night and returned to wrestling for the WWF.

My, My Shirai

Io Shirai is considered by many, to be the best women’s wrestler in the business today. Shirai has wrestled all over the world and is currently, as of this writing, signed to a WWE contract and has been assigned to NXT. Io Shirai has also done some modeling in her past. She has posed semi-nude in some photo shoots including a pictorial in Japan’s version of Playboy magazine in 2017.

In a Fog

Mr. Niebla is a luchador who was a former CMLL heavyweight champion in Mexico. Niebla has admittedly been battling alcoholism in recent years. It has gotten so bad, that while competing in New Japan, he was found unconscious in the locker room and had to be hospitalized. In late Summer of 2018, Mr. Niebla entered the ring at a CMLL show completed wasted and was in no condition to perform. As he climbed the ropes, he quickly fell off and outside the ring and had to be escorted backstage.

All of his actions have resulted in Mr. Niebla getting his wrestling license suspended. He can no longer work for CMLL or any other wrestling promotion in Mexico City.

  1. Luna was just as crazy in real life as she was in character, I love it. I can’t say I wouldn’t have wanted to do the same thing, I just probably wouldn’t have actually done it, lol.

  2. The more i hear how WCW was messed up back in 1999-2001 they should’ve taped the wild backstage stuff for airing on both Nitro and Thunder it would’ve gotten higher ratings.

    • There were stories about how she could be the sweetest person in the world, that is until you get her angry. She was a talented wrestler but often overlooked which is a damn shame
