This Week in Wrestling 2019 Week 51

Brian Damage

It’s Saturday and today we have ’This Week in Wrestling’, the 51st of 2019. Today Brian discusses the “makeover” of Liv Morgan and why it looks awfully familiar and shares all the best wrestling content from this week.

Ya Only Liv Twice

After several months of being off WWE television, Liv Morgan has finally reemerged. Vignettes have shown Liv getting somewhat of a makeover. Gone is the pink hair and blue tongue and replaced with her natural blonde locks. The whole video package was very reminiscent of another gimmick that didn’t quite take off.

Back in 2017, WWE had shown several vignettes of Emma aka Tenille Dashwood getting a makeover and crossing over to becoming a character called ‘Emmalina.’ The basic concept of the Emmalina character was a wrestler who acted more like a diva. This, right in the middle of WWE’s Women’s Revolution. Emmalina would care more about her looks and acting pretty, than caring about her in ring skills.

After months of seeing vignettes and the gimmick continually getting pushed back…Emmalina was becoming somewhat of a joke. When the character was finally unveiled in February of 2017, she simply sashayed out to the ramp only to say…“For seventeen weeks, you have waited for the makeover of Emma to Emmalina….and now you will see the makeover of Emmalina to Emma…Thank You.” And just like that, she walked off the stage and the gimmick was killed off.

The Emmalina gimmick failed in large part because Tenille Dashwood wasn’t comfortable doing it. She considered herself more as a wrestler than as a diva. Dashwood said about the character, “I’m not a diva. I’m not like that at all. And I just wanted to wrestle.” The Emmalina gimmick was apparently a pet project of the boss Vince McMahon. When the gimmick fizzled out, Tenille Dashwood was ultimately released from the company.

Now, fast forward to today and it seems Vince is taking this gimmick out of storage to try once again. It may be tweaked some what or it may be another swerve of some kind…we can only speculate at this time. Considering that the gimmick was the vision of Vince McMahon…I certainly think Liv Morgan will become what Tenille Dashwood couldn’t deliver. We will just have to wait and see where this new makeover goes…

    • I do too, because it would seriously help improve morale there. The main problem is how much of a control freak Vince is, especially once the WWE became a publicly-traded company. Thus why there’s so many stupid rules, words and phrases you can’t say, etc.

  1. I’m curious why Mickie is still w/ the WWE other than because she’s still contracted to them. I would think once her contract eventually expires, she’ll join her hubby in the NWA.

I know I’m not the only one who wants Liv to become the REAL Sister Abigail. But I guess that’s not what we’ll be getting.

Cool ass Sinister Minister custom figures as well.
