This is the 261st installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Sting is Stung
Art often imitates life and in the case of WCW star Sting…it certainly did. On camera, Sting portrayed a lonesome, brooding character all by himself. While married with two young boys at home, Steve Borden was all alone. He had become addicted to painkillers, sleeping around on the road with different women and shutting out his friends and family.
It wasn’t until he returned from the rigors of the road, where it all came to a head for Steve ‘Sting’ Borden. His wife Sue, discovered bottles of pain meds in his luggage. Borden had been caught in a lie, he denied taking pain pills to her in the past. When confronted about his lies, Borden opened up to his wife and confessed all of his misdoings throughout the years of their marriage.
Steve and Sue worked through their issues, when Borden turned to God and became a Born Again Christian. They remained married and had another child. In the year 2000, the couple mutually decided to call it quits and divorced.
‘Hercules’ Bobby Graham was a pro wrestler whose career started in the late 1950’s to the early 1970’s. In 1967, Bobby Graham was arrested after allegedly assaulting his wife at their home. Police were called and Graham reportedly refused to surrender. The police were armed with both shotguns and tear gas to get the 28 year old 250 pund wrestler out of the home. Graham threw down a pistol he was carrying and finally surrendered.
While being held in a prison cell, Graham allegedly ripped out the toilet in a fit of rage. The prison guards discovered about the incident when the ceiling began leaking to the offices below.
Sunshine Through The Clouds
Valerie French portrayed the character of ‘Sunshine’ in World Class Championship Wrestling. For a majority of that time, she was the valet to ‘Gorgeous’ Jimmy Garvin. She also just so happened to be the real life cousin of Garvin’s. During her run in WCCW, Valerie French began drinking heavily. According to Garvin, Sunshine simply wasn’t ready for the bright lights and high lifestyle of professional wrestling.
Jimmy Garvin once claimed in an interview that Sunshine drank so much, she actually drank a guy like ‘Freebird’ Buddy Roberts under the table. With her alcohol consumption spiraling out of control, Garvin knew there needed to be changes. Garvin replaced Sunshine with his real life wife Patti aka ‘Precious.’ Valerie French wound up in rehab and ultimately left the wrestling business behind.
Million Dollar Babysitters
The ‘Million Dollar Man’ Ted Dibiase admittedly was a big womanizer during his wrestling career. Dibase claims he carried on several affairs while married with a family. Several of his trysts became a problem for WWF management, as many of the women Dibiase slept with allegedly started to harass management. According to ‘Sycho’ Sid Vicious, Vince McMahon assigned both Sid and Bob Holly to chaperone Dibiase when on the road. Their sole purpose was to make sure Dibiase behaved and to keep Dibiase away from trouble.
