This is the 276th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Koko Goes Loco
Before his run in the WWF, Koko Ware wrestled in the Memphis territory in the early 1980’s. On a regular TV studio match, Ware faced off against a wrestler named ‘The Masked Patriot.’ This was not Del Wilkes aka the Patriot from WCW, WWF and Japan. What should have been an ordinary squash match…turned into something a bit more.
From the beginning, Koko looked agitated while he made his way to the ring. When the bell rang, Koko immediately pounced on the Patriot hitting him with stiff punches and kicks. Koko then whipped the masked wrestler off the ropes and delivered a hellacious clothesline which appeared to legitimately knock the Patriot out. Ware didn’t stop beating on him, as he delivered a brain buster on the Patriot and pinned him. Koko Ware then added insult to injury by slapping the masked man across the face.
Many fans wondered was this a part of the show or was there some deeper meaning to what they witnessed. The Patriot was enhancement talent, so there was no angle between him and Koko Ware. Years later, it was revealed the Patriot was allegedly a wrestler who often competed on “outlaw shows.” Those were a big no no for wrestlers and promoters because they took business away from the main territories. Apparently, Koko recognized who the wrestler was and decided to teach him a lesson in the ring.
2019 was not a very good year for Jeff Hardy, as he was arrested twice. Once for public intoxication and the other for DWI. It goes with a long list of other drug and alcohol offenses that Jeff has compiled through the years. His brother Matt took to social media to comment on Jeff’s recent troubles by saying….
“Since so many have asked me about my brother tonight-I love my brother & want him to be happy & healthy. I’ve expressed that to him as much as I can. Jeff has to make his decisions about his life.
I have to focus on my 2 boys & soon to arrive son. I can only control MY actions.”
That led Jeff’s wife Beth to lash out by tweeting this:
“Kept my mouth shut for too long. Don’t take ANY info seriously from ‘family’ when it comes to me or Jeff. ‘Family’ quotes are BS. Family should have contacted us first before they made a statement to Twitter. Looks like they’re more worried about their online presence than Jeff. Jeff & I are handling our business. Hence no post from either of us about what happened. Going forward, if you don’t hear it from us, disregard it. We don’t need any “well wishes” from ‘family’. I’m tired of pretending. Nothing was ever as it seemed.”
Her tweets triggered Matt’s wife Reby who wrote this:
“No matter how much you dislike him, MATT IS STILL HIS BROTHER, here LONG before your ass & is family, not ‘family,’ PERIOD. Any statements from Matt about Jeff don’t need YOUR approval; it ain’t about YOU,
Matt has every right to talk about his brother’s issues because he’s been there before.”
“You’re an idiot if you really believe Jeff’s actions don’t affect Matt; they do & and he has every f—ing right to speak his mind on HIS OWN BROTHER. Remember, he speaks from EXPERIENCE. Unlike you, we don’t run & hide from our issues & pretend nothing is or was ever wrong in this house. Matt was the absolute worst & I’ve seen how bad it can truly get. I know how this story ends if you don’t f—ing wake up already.”
She didn’t stop there and continued…
If you don’t want a public response, maybe don’t post sh*t publicly ? Ain’t nobody gonna use the interwebs to throw shade then receive the respect of a private response outta me. You wanted it out there, ok vamos. Y’all know how tf I am, stop acting shocked when I pull a me
“Ur so ghetto”
Who tf yall thought you were following, the Duchess of Cameron ? Not changing who I am to fit your warped image of what a wife/mother/person living in this zip code should be. Keep your restrictions limited to yourselves.
There have been no more public responses from wither Jeff or Beth on this matter.
Outta the Fire and into the Frying Pan
Rocky Johnson recalled during his career, he had several affairs with women while married to his wife Ata. Several wrestlers went to Johnson’s father in law and fellow wrestler ‘High Chief’ Peter Maivia and reported on Johnson’s transgressions. According to Johnson, Maivia would brush off the news and tell the wrestlers, that ‘it was between Rocky and his daughter and it was none of his business.’ Johnson surmised there was a reason Maivia ignored the fact that his son in law was cheating on his daughter.
Johnson said that Peter Maivia was doing the exact same thing, as was countless other wrestlers. It was almost as if it was as much a part of the business as anything else. While Johnson admitted to his cheating ways, he did say that he would always return home to his family to not let on. Maivia. on the other hand, would allegedly spend hours upon hours with his mistress and make it more obvious to his wife Lia.
Johnson said one night, after spending the entire day with his mistress…Maivia returned home to find his wife Lia waiting for him in the dark. She had a cast iron skillet in her hand and clobbered Maivia in the head with it. It apparently left Maivia with a bruised face…to which he lied to the rest of the boys in the locker room about how he got it.
‘Bulldog’ Dick Brower was eating at a Fish N Chips restaurant when a fellow patron noticed the wrestler. The wrestling fan smiled at Brower who was sitting alone at the establishment. Brower, who portrayed an out of control heel….decided to “keep kayfabe alive” and reacted to the fan’s smile. He allegedly flipped over his table and started yelling and screaming at the fan and challenged him to a fight. He also threw his chair and broke dishes in the crazed moment. The wrestler then stormed out of the establishment and never returned. No word on how much damage he caused, but there were no arrests made in the case.
