Wrestling With Sin: 280

Brian Damage

This is the 280th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

LEXiCON

Former WCW and WWF star Lex Luger suffered through a very rough period in his life in the early 2000’s. His wrestling career was crumbling down with numerous bouts with the law. First, he was indirectly involved in the drug overdose death of his girlfriend and fellow wrestling personality Elizabeth Hulette in 2003. In 2005, Lex was arrested on three separate occasions for different infractions.

In January of ’05, Luger was discovered by police on the side of a road passed out. When the officer awoke Luger, he drove off leading the officer to ask for further police assistance. He was eventually stopped and arrested and charged with DUI, driving on an expired tag, alteration of tag, no proof of insurance and having an open container. In March of that year, Luger was arrested for failing to pay his ex wife child support for his two children.

Finally, in December of 2005, Lex was on his way to a wrestling show in Canada with Buff Bagwell and Scott Steiner. While on the plane, he and Bagwell were ‘joking’ with a flight attendant and the attendant reported the incident to the pilot. When the plane landed in Canada, all three wrestlers were detained by authorities. Luger was sent back to the States where he was arrested by police in Minnesota for two outstanding warrants in Georgia. Luger was held in a Minnesota jail for two weeks before being extradited back to Georgia.

Don’t Rock The Boat

It was widely known that during their tenures with WCW, Brian Pillman and Terri Boatright aka Alexandria York (the future Marlena in WWF) were an item for several months. According to both Missy Hyatt and Tom Zenk, there was an incident one night where Boatright was out drinking with Pillman and Zenk and the trio went back to Boatright’s hotel. Pillman allegedly brought up the idea to Terri about having a threesome to which she agreed. The trio got as far as kissing and getting undressed before Boatright got scared and backed out of the situation.

Rumors got back to the boys in WCW’s locker room and that morphed into Pillman and Zenk having sex with one another. Apparently the two wrestlers were ribbed relentlessly over that rumor and that started friction between Pillman and Zenk. It eventually led to the two having a physical altercation backstage at an event. According to Stan Lane, the fight was one sided with Pillman winning it.

Zenk would maintain that he and ‘Flyin’ Brian’ remained friends for the rest of Pillman’s life. Terri has come out and insisted that the situation was a lot different. Zenk had come to hang out in her hotel room and Pillman found out and went into a jealous rage. Terri says nothing happened between her and Zenk.

Hose by Rose

During an AWA house show in Denver, Colorado in 1986…’Playboy’ Buddy Rose got into a heated exchange with a ringside fan. The situation escalated and Rose allegedly struck the fan with his AWA tag team belt. The fan would eventually sue Buddy Rose over the incident. A year later, the court ordered Rose to pay the fan 12,500 dollars in damages. Buddy never paid the fan the money in that incident.

Keeping it Kayfabe

In 1963, a wrestler called ‘The Masked Terror’ was walking to the back after a match and for whatever reason punched a fan in the back of the head. The fan turned out to be an off duty police officer. The Masked Terror ran out the back door and took off. The police were called to the arena and questioned the promoter William Davis. They demanded to know the masked wrestler’s real identity.

Davis refused to break Kayfabe and reveal who the Masked Terror was. So the police arrested the promoter and charged him disorderly conduct. Davis never revealed who the true identity of the Masked Terror.

  1. Ha! Goddamn that Zenk/Pillman story’s pretty funny. Never heard that one until now. Zenk just did NOT have any luck with being in tag teams did he?

  2. Terri Boatright not willing to be in a threesome? Odd considering some of the other stories about her sexual shenanigans.
