Do you love useless pro wrestling facts and stuff like that? Well if you are enamored with them, then this is the post for you. If not….so be it. We delve into a bunch of facts, stats and tidbits that you may or may not know about. All of them pertain to the world of professional wrestling. In any case, cozy up with a love one and let’s romanticize these utterly useless wrestling facts.

Tony Schiavone was the first person to actually suggest making David Arquette the WCW world champion. He did it in a creative meaning…and Vince Russo’s lit up. Little did Schiavone know that Russo would go ahead with the idea.

From the beginning of 2000 until the end of WCW in 2001, their World title changed hands twenty two times.

Glenn Jacobs faced The Undertaker under the Unabomb, Isaac Yankem, Fake Diesel and Kane gimmicks.

Art Barr and Eddie Guerrero were a team together down in Mexico. Barr’s finishing move was the frog splash. When he passed away, his good friend and partner Guerrero adopted the move as his finisher in tribute to Art Barr.

R-Truth is the most decorated WWE Superstar of all time, surpassing Raven with 44 title reigns.

Sting and Lex Luger discovered Bill Goldberg in a gym in Atlanta. They convinced Goldberg to give pro wrestling a try.

Paul Heyman has managed a record six different wrestlers to WWE world titles.

Sting was featured every single WCW video game ever made.

All of AEW’s singles title holders (Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Cody Rhodes and Brodie Lee) were former WWE Intercontinental champions.

Davey Boy Smith got the name ‘Boy’ due to a mistake on his birth certificate. The clerk at the register’s office was apparently in a rush and instead of putting Boy in the paper work where it said Sex…he wrote it in the box asking for his middle name. Hence the name Davey Boy.

NXT held a tournament to crown the first ever NXT Women’s Champion when Paige beat Emma and then held another tournament to crown the second ever NXT women’s champion when Charlotte pinned Natalya. The NXT title was stripped from Paige after she had won the WWE Divas title on the main roster.

Rey Mysterio is the nephew…not the son of Rey Misterio Sr. Rey Sr’s son (Rey Mysterio’s cousin) is also a wrestler that goes by the name of El Hijo De Rey Misterio.

Shinsuke Nakamura holds the record for most IWGP Intercontinental title reigns at 5 for a combined reign of over 900 days. He is also the youngest IWGP heavyweight champion by winning it at the age of 23 years old.

The WWF once co-promoted a wrestling event at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. The event was called The Big Egg Wrestling Universe and was held on November 20th, 1994. It featured wrestlers from several organizations including GAEA, FMW, Michinoku Pro Wrestling, LLPW and the WWF. The card had 23 matches and lasted 10 hours.

Enrique Ugartechea was the first ever Mexican wrestler and the father of Lucha Libre. He began his career in 1863.

The Hulk Hogan theme song ‘Real American’ was not initially meant for Hogan, but for the tag team The U.S. Express (Barry Windham and Mike Rotundo). In fact, the song wasn’t even written for a wrestler at all. Rick Derringer wrote the song for an album…but it was never released. So when he worked on the WWF wrestling album, he suggested adding it to their record and Vince McMahon loved it.

Vader was the man who named Pro Wrestling NOAH’s top championship the GHC title. It stands for Global Honored Crown. Vader never won that title…in fact…the only American to hold the GHC title is Impact Wrestling’s Eddie Edwards in 2017.

As of this writing, the longest running pro wrestling promotion was based out of Germany called Verband Der Berufsringer (VDB) (Translated: Association of professional wrestlers) It was founded in 1912 and lasted until 2005 (93 years). The second longest promotion is based in Mexico called CMLL and is still active to this day (87 years and counting).

Hillbilly Jim’s first royalty check for his WWF action figures in 1985 was $87,610.76

The Road Warriors made their debut as a tag team on June 11, 1983. They didn’t wear spiked shoulder pads or face paint. Instead, they were dressed as bikers with hats, denim jeans and leather chaps.

  1. So it was Tony Schiavone who gave Russo the idea and was like “what, no! That’s a bad idea. Aw shit…” I still blame Vince Russo for that one. Still, given how bad WWE has become as of late… David Arquette is a better world champion than anyone in Meekmahan-land right now. That title has now been devalued ever since they gave it to a no-talent jobber in the Maharajah-bum.
