It’s Saturday and today we have ’This Week in Wrestling’, the 41st of 2020. Today Brian discusses who the MVP is of Monday Night Raw and shares all the best wrestling content from this week.
MVP is the MVP of Monday Night Raw
There are certainly a lot of flaws on the Monday Night Raw show in recent months. The three hour length, the inconsistent booking of some wrestlers, other wrestlers not being at all etc…but there has been one thing truly positive on Raw lately…Montel Vontavious Porter aka MVP. What was supposed to be a one shot appearance at this year’s Royal Rumble…turned into a full time job as a WWE agent.
Instead of just sitting in a production truck or at the Gorilla position backstage…MVP was slowly being used back in front of the cameras. His ability to cut great promos and his natural charisma was being utilized more and more. So much so, he was removed as an agent and put back on WWE’s active roster full time.
What has MVP done in the time since then? He has helped elevate and showcase various wrestlers that would have normally been misused or not used at all. MVP helped return Bobby Lashley as a monster heel after months of being wasted in a love triangle storyline with Lana and Rusev. He helped Shelton Benjamin get more screen time and assisted in him once again becoming a relevant WWE superstar.
He took on a program with Apollo Crews and helped build Crews up as a legitimate star….something that creative failed to do for so long. While talents like Ricochet and Cedric Alexander were spending most of their time in catering and not being used….MVP and his Hurt Business faction helped bring them back out into the spotlight.
MVP also had a hand in helping the grossly underused Mustafa Ali and getting involved with his storylines as well. MVP might not be booking the angles, but he is certainly making them feel important and keeping the wrestlers he is working with looking strong and important. MVP has been ballin’ in his time on Monday Night Raw and definitely has become the MVP of the red brand.

I respect your opinion, but as a fan of pro wrestling, I support all shows regardless of how I may personally feel about its owner. More promotions is not a bad thing and the more work there is…there more talent can get a paycheck for living out their dream.

Again, not arguing…but I as a fan of the business will never root for any organization to go under, that includes McMahon Land. I support all of the business.

But I can’t. I can’t support a company that treats their “independent contractors” like shit as well as the fact that their out-of-touch owner refused to pay some extra money for a safety harness all because he wanted someone to drop off from the top of the arena fast.

You’re saying WWE should keep a full roster despite running zero house shows, zero live audiences and losing tens of millions of dollars this year already?

It’s better than bribing government officials and corrupt organizations. Plus, they’re the ones who made these “independent contractors” sign their contracts by saying “I’m thinking about your kids”. If anyone said that to my face, that motherfucker would be lying dead in a pool of his own blood.

Look, a lot of promotions have fallen. NWA is trying to get back on track thanks in part to AEW who at least have given indie wrestlers a pay day and appear on their programming.
What would you do if someone gave you a shitload of money for the next few years only to be gone in a matter of months?
