Wrestling With Sin: 333

Brian Damage

This is the 333rd installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Hard Pill to Swallow

Bill Kazmaier was a professional powerlifter and strongman competitor turned professional wrestler. While training with the Hart family up in the Stampede territory in Calgary, Alberta, Canada…Kazmaier made it known he had loftier aspirations in the wrestling business. Kazmaier would allegedly brag to the other wrestlers that being in Calgary was just a small stepping stone for him to get a contract with the WWF. That apparently ticked off a lot of the other talent in Stampede who felt disrespected.

One in particular was Brian Pillman, who absolutely hated Bill Kazmaier and his arrogance. Pillman and a bunch of other wrestlers played pranks on Kazmaier like stealing his gear and destroying it or cancelling his rental car and leaving him stranded in an area. Pillman and Kazmaier would nearly get into a physical confrontation after an incident happened in the winter of 1986.

A group of wrestlers (including Kazmaier and Pillman) were driving from a show when Kazmaier received a call from a woman he admired that her car broke down. Kazmaier demanded that the driver pick this woman up…which the driver agreed to do. After picking the unidentified woman up, she sat beside Kazmaier. During the long trip, Pillman began flirting with the female. After the van stopped for food and restroom breaks, Kazmaier returned to the vehicle to see the woman sitting with Pillman kissing him.

Kazmaier became infuriated and challenged Pillman to a fight once they got to their destination. Brian Pillman accepted the challenged and stepped up to Kazmaier. The strongman was apparently surprised that the smaller Pillman showed no fear and stepped up to him. Kazmaier allegedly turned away and drove his female friend home without incident.

Latina Heat

Quetzalli Bulnes is a Mexican model and actress that currently hosts WWE’s Spanish language show…WWE Ahora. She has appeared in a number of telenovelas and commercials in Mexico before being hired by WWE. Bulnes grew up a wrestling fan admiring WWE stars like the Hardy Boyz.

As mentioned, aside from her WWE hosting duties, Bulnes has also done quite a bit of modeling. Some of which has included posing nude a number of times.

Drunk with Power

For several years, Genichiro Tenryu was a top star for All Japan Pro Wrestling. Tenryu held All Japan’s Triple Crown title three times in his career. One night, Tenryu invited himself and a number of his friends from the promotion over to All Japan’s promoter Shohei ‘Giant’ Baba’s home.

While there, the group of wrestlers ate Baba’s food and drank all of his expensive sake. It is believed Tenryu did this to show off just how powerful he was within the company. This angered Baba, who felt betrayed by his friend. The two had a serious falling out after this incident occurred.

Dirty Deeds

Memphis wrestler Roger Smith once used the gimmick of being Dusty Rhodes’ cousin named Dirty Rhodes. Smith had gotten into an altercation with his ex wife at her home and allegedly refused to let her leave. The SWAT was eventually called in and Smith was arrested with his ex unharmed.

Another time, Smith had gotten into a dispute with promoter Nick Gulas over pay and to “protest” Smith allegedly burned a cross on Gulas’ front lawn.

    • Me too. Brian Jr’s got a looooong & bright future ahead of him provided he’s able to stay relatively injury-free (serious ones anyways) and keep a good, smart head about him.
I know he’s got a lot of people also looking out for him, so he should be good to go.

  1. Did Nick Gulas ever pay anyone? The Dirty Rhodes story is hilarious. I am amazed to hear that Kazmeir was training and working as far back as 1986. I only became aware of him via his WCW run in the 1990s. He obviously never learned a thing in Stampeded, wrestling wise. For the life of my i will never understand the popularity and reputation of Genichiro Tenryu. Of all the classic Japanese stars, he never impressed me. Hate him now even more to hear he disrespected Baba and his home like that.

  2. I love Tenryu, but I felt betrayed after that too. It seems Baba punished him after that incident by making him eat the pins in every match he was supposed to lose
