Help Wanted! Job Opportunities: D Lo Brown

Brian Damage

Back in the 80’s and 90’s, it was very common to see some no name wrestler go up against a proven star of a promotion. Whether that be from the WWF, NWA/WCW, AWA or elsewhere, these nomads of professional wrestling were there to make the stars look great. They were known as enhancement talent, preliminary wrestlers or as many fans have come to know them…”jobbers.” While fans were clamoring to see big time match ups, these “squash matches” served a very important purpose. While perhaps not appreciated at the time, they were just as important as the stars themselves.

This time around, we go back to the early to mid 1990’s in the WWF. The ring announcer introduces the WWF main superstar and then…his opponent for the evening AC Corner! AC would appear several times in an enhancement role under different variations of his name…mostly AC Connor.

His ability to make others look good, helped AC eventually get a WWF contract himself. He would find his own success under the name of D Lo Brown. He first debuted under that name as a member of the Nation of Domination. He would also become a top wrestler on WWF’s mid card winning titles like the Intercontinental and European belts.

Unfortunately, D Lo Brown will always be connected to the tragic accident that left Darren Drozdov paralyzed during a WWF TV Taping. After his retirement, D Lo helped train future wrestlers and became a producer/color commentator for Impact Wrestling.

  1. D-Lo Brown got a bum rap. Honestly, I think what happened with Droz was a freak accident. I’m glad Droz never had any ill-will towards D-Lo and was able to forgive him as he knew it was an accident where both of them messed up. Plus, I have a lot of respect for D-Lo as a worker and as a person. Especially in that story about his fight with Ahmed all because Ahmed is a dumb-fuck and the boys respected D-Lo for not taking any of Ahmed’s bullshit.
