This is the 349th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Cutting Off Friends
Younger brother of Chris Candido and a former wrestler himself Johnny Candido recalled an incident between himself and his friend Balls Mahoney. Johnny and Balls lived near each other in New Jersey and often hung out together. According to Candido, he once went over Balls’ house looking to score some Vicodin pills. Balls claimed he didn’t have any, but Candido knew he was lying to him.
Candido asked to use Balls’ bathroom and went into the house. Johnny then immediately went into Balls’ bedroom and saw a bottle of Vicodin on his end table. Candido admittedly took about 10 pills and swallowed them. Balls went back into his house and saw that his bottle of pills were missing and attacked Candido. The two friends brawled inside of Balls home.
As the fight intensified, Candido claims that Mahoney grabbed a samurai sword he had hanging on the wall and started swinging it at Candido’s head. Shocked that his buddy tried to decapitate him, Candido ran out of the house. Balls Mahoney realizing that he took things too far ran after Candido apologizing. Johnny Candido said the two wrestlers “hugged it out” and stayed friends.
What a Crappy Flight That Was
Larry Zbyszko recalled a story where he and a few wrestlers were on a flight to Japan. One of those wrestlers was Haystacks Calhoun who stood 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighed over 600 pounds. Calhoun was so big, he needed to sit by himself for extra room. Also on that flight was Mr. Fuji, who decided to play a rib or practical joke on Haystacks.
Fuji placed heavy duty laxatives in Calhoun’s drink and food on the 16 hour flight. After Calhoun ate his meal, the laxatives took over. Haystacks rushed to the bathroom, but the bathroom was too small for him to fit into. Zbyszko claims that several flight attendants had to hold open large trash bags for Calhoun to defecate in.
Current Impact Wrestling star Kimber Lee took to social media in April of 2019 and admitted that she is an alcoholic. At that point, she was sober for two months. Kimber Lee opened up about her struggles and dependency to alcohol for years prior. She also revealed that she nearly lost everything due to the disease. Kimber Lee was once signed to a WWE developmental contract and was assigned to NXT from 2017 until 2018. No word if her past alcoholism caused her eventual release from the company in March of 2018.
Thankfully, she joined Alcoholics Anonymous, got sober and signed a deal with Impact Wrestling.
Actor Tommy Lister Jr. co starred in the Hulk Hogan movie ‘No Holds Barred’ and wrestled matches with the WWF under the name of Zeus. He also wrestled matches for both WCW and WWC in Puerto Rico as well. In 2012, Lister was arrested and charged with mortgage fraud. According to the FBI, Lister and a few coconspirators falsified records to help Lister unlawfully acquire four homes for $5.7 million.
All in all, Lister swindled over 3.8 million dollars from lenders. Lister plead guilty to the charges and faced up to five years in prison. Lister agreed to cooperate with the FBI and IRS to avoid prison time.
