It’s Saturday and today we have ’This Week in Wrestling’, the 42nd of 2021. Today Brian rates his top five (in this case 7) stars that that are making waves in the brand new NXT 2.0 and shares all the best wrestling content from this week.
NXT 2.0 : The Top 5 to look out for
I admit that NXT was growing stale for a while and hearing that Vince McMahon was taking over the brand wasn’t exactly getting my pumped…but questioning what he will do to it. The truth of the matter, is that NXT 2.0 has been pretty entertaining. It has some flaws and kinks to work out, but overall the show has been good. With a brand new roster of young, hungry wrestlers, you can feel their enthusiasm to make it big. Some may make it and others may not, but here are my top five characters to look out for in the future.
1 Bron Breakker
Stupid name….yes…but make no mistake that the 2nd generation wrestler Bronson Steiner is what Jim Ross would probably characterize as a “blue chipper.” The guy has the look, the ability and let’s face it…the confidence from management to have a rocket strapped to his back. Bron will be a huge star in the business despite his silly cartoon name.
2 Joe Gacy
Gacy has a great heel gimmick portraying a “woke” wrestler who welcomes both friends and foes into his safe space which is a wrestling ring. Add to that, the guy can flat out wrestle and also possesses good mic skills.
3 Toxic Attraction
I was never a really big fan of Mandy Rose on the main roster, but she has definitely improved character wise as a heel with a new look and leading a faction. Gigi Dolin…I think will ultimately be the break out star of the group…but together they have held my interest and seem poised for a big push.
4 Carmelo Hayes
This guy won the NXT Breakout Tournament and then won the North American title. Carmelo Hayes is an excellent, dynamic wrestler who is reportedly working under the tutelage of NXT producer Shawn Michaels. Hayes also has a ton of charisma and definitely someone to look out for in the future.
5 Odyssey Jones
Odyssey Jones is a wrestler well over 400 pounds and is as agile as the late, great Bam Bam Bigelow. What’s not to love with this future star? He has the size of a monster, the speed of a cat and the agility of a kangaroo. I see really big things for him moving forward.
All in all, the talent pool seems to be pretty rich in NXT. There are others I look forward to seeing in the coming weeks, but these five (or seven if you count all three in Toxic Attraction) are definitely solid building blocks for the company’s future.
