A ring technician who started his career at a very young age. He wrestled all over the world and was a fixture on WWE television. Today on the blog, we ask…’Whatever Happened to’ ‘Gentleman’ Jack Gallagher?
Oliver Westfield Claffey first fell in love with professional wrestling after watching Mankind defeat the Rock for the WWF title on Monday Night Raw. It was at that point, Claffey sought to follow his dream and become a pro wrestler himself. Claffey began his training at just 15 years old and debuted as a pro at the age of 16 in 2006. His first ring name was ‘Jack Toxic’, but eventually changed it to Jack Gallagher.
Claffey wrestled all throughout Europe and in Japan for the late Shinya Hashimoto’s Zero 1 promotion. He eventually wrestled for Progress Wrestling where he feuded with the likes of Zack Gibson and Pete Dunne. It was his matches with Dunne that led to exposure to WWE.
Gallagher would be signed by WWE in 2016 and was entered into the Cruiserweight Classic tournament. He defeated Fabian Aichner, but eventually lost in the next round to Akira Towzawa. Gentleman Jack Gallagher would become a staple of the WWE’s cruiserweight division, often appearing on 205 Live. Gallagher would eventually turn heel and align with Brian Kendrick.
In June of 2020, Gallagher was accused of sexual misconduct from a 2014 incident. He said he didn’t recall the incident, but apologized if he hurt anyone in any way. WWE would release him from his contract soon after.
So the question remains….whatever happened to ‘Gentleman’ Jack Gallagher? He hasn’t wrestled a match since his WWE release in 2020. He now competes for the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship organization under the name Jack Claffey. He resides in Manchester, England.
