Downed On The Farm: Top WWE Developmental Prospects That Never Made It…Part 98

Brian Damage

The WWF/WWE has had some type of developmental system for years now. Whether it was the USWA, Ohio Valley, Power Pro, Heartland, Deep South, Florida Championship Wrestling or NXT…many of the company’s top superstars got their start in at least one of them. While some developmental names like John Cena, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton, The Miz, Brock Lesnar and Charlotte Flair all made big stars of themselves by first training in developmental, others never got to see the light of day. This series will focus on those wrestlers…the ones that at some point were a lock to get called up to the main roster and never quite made it. What once was hot, suddenly became a “not” as a WWE superstar.

Troy Jackman

Ian Richardson was a college football quarterback from Santa Barbara, California. When his dreams of making it into the NFL didn’t pan out, Richardson decided to try his hand at professional wrestling. He had a try out with WWE and just by his looks and physical appearance was offered a WWE developmental contract in 2008.

Richardson was assigned to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) based in Tampa, Florida and was trained by Steve Keirn. He was initially given the ring name of ‘Tristan Delta’ but eventually WWE settled on the name of ‘Troy Jackman.’ In his stint down in FCW, Richardson wrestled the likes of Drew McIntyre, Ryback, Bo Dallas and Alex Riley. In his final days with WWE developmental, he would form a tag team with fellow wrestler Fletcher Chase. Ultimately he and Chase were both cut and released in 2009. The official reasoning for Ian’s release was that the company felt his personality lacked charisma.

Ian Richardson has since quit pro wrestling and has worked as both a model and actor in California where he currently resides.

  1. Combining Aikman’s first name cos the dude used to play American football and Hugh’s last name cos he’s swole equals an interesting ring name even though he lacked charisma.
