This Week in Wrestling 2023 Week 4

Brian Damage

It’s Saturday and today we have ’This Week in Wrestling’, the 4th entry of 2023. Today Brian talks Royal Rumble, Mandy Rose and shares all the best wrestling content from this week.

Will the 2023 Royal Rumble Humble or Jumble or Bumble?

It’s that time of year again…the road to Wrestlemania starts in San Antonio, Texas for the Royal Rumble. This show is usually my favorite on WWE’s calendar, simply because of the unpredictability it has to it. Admittedly, the last couple of years haven’t exactly set the wrestling world on fire, but I do have some hope that with Triple H calling the shots…even with Vince McMahon back as CEO…that this show will be much better than in recent years.

Wishful thinking I know, but reportedly Triple H has thought outside the box for this event and that there will be a few surprises. Who or what that’ll be, I guess we will have to wait and see. I try to keep my expectations low for these shows, but I genuinely have a certain excitement this year. This is Triple H’s first Rumble booking and if left alone to book it, I expect it will be done right.

There are a lot of decent storylines going into this event, with the biggest being the ongoing saga of the Bloodline and Sami Zayn. Will the Rock show up or are we being led to believe that he turned down WWE’s offer because he wasn’t in ring shape? There have been floating rumors that we will see the return of Matt ‘Zack Ryder’ Cardona and his wife Chelsea Green, IWGP women’s champion KAIRI has also been a name swirling around. We do know that after several months away with injuries, Cody Rhodes will return. All I hope for is an entertaining show with a hot crowd. Let’s see if WWE can deliver it.

Is Mandy Rose Still in Bloom?

Former WWE wrestler Mandy Rose has been keeping herself in the news by speaking on her recent firing from WWE. She’s done a few interviews, including a stop on the daytime talk show Tamron Hall. Mandy says she was surprised and saddended by her WWE release and would have considered taking down all of her racy content, if WWE had asked her to. Whether that is completely true or not, we may never know.

What we do know, is that after her release, Mandy bumped up her subscription fee and made a nice, small fortune for herself in the process. If we are to believe insider reports, however, since the dust has settled after her firing, business hasn’t exactly been booming. Some have said that many have already dropped her subscription based content and she hasn’t made nearly what she once did. If true, that might explain why she has been keeping herself in the spotlight.

Bottom Line, Mandy is a beautiful woman, but her appeal was based mainly on her being a WWE superstar. Without the WWE shine on her, she is just another pretty face in countless other pretty faces who provide the same if not racier content. Again, she has made more in a week, than I could probably make in a lifetime and good for her if she can get it. If the stories are true though, maybe, just maybe we will see Mandy Rose return to wrestling.

  1. There were quite a few untelevised Rumbles (usually with much less than 30 participants) and I think it was Bruce Prichard who claimed that there was more than one in 1987, but the big one that comes to mind was 1994, MSG, full 30, just before that year’s actual one. There’s actually some bootleg footage going around of it.
