August 1st, 2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the groundbreaking channel known as Music Television or more affectionately known as MTV. A network that was a very big part of many young lives growing up. The network has certainly changed over the years and for many, it devolved into a channel of horrible reality shows and no longer focuses on music videos. Many Generation Xers will say that MTV’s greatest years were from 1981 until 1999. Regardless of how we may personally feel about the channel, it definitely has a very rich history of helping promote professional wrestling.

In a world that has larger than life characters, flashy outfits, over the top promos and often times outrageous physical violence…it can become easy to associate professional wrestling being a real-life cartoon. During the 1980s into the mid-1990s, the then World Wrestling Federation was synonymous with being compared to one. Meanwhile, in WCW: 1997 Week 52

Happy new year! Well, the day has finally arrived; today marks the end of our 1997 timeline. It sounds like a cliché to say that all previous Meanwhile, in WCW posts have been building towards this one, but they really have. This week WCW reached its zenith by presenting Starrcade 1997, the highest grossing pay per view the company ever produced.
