When reminiscing about the World Wrestling Federation during the 1990’s, it is hard not to think about a certain group of wrestlers that banded together through friendship. These friends, were both faces and heels that used their power to their advantage behind the scenes. Of course, I am talking about ‘The Kliq’ which consisted of guys like Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Paul Levesque and Sean Waltman along with a couple of others. As strong and as powerful as they were backstage, there was another group that was less talked about…yet had just as much clout. Fun Fact: In hindsight Xanta Klaus is easily identifiable as ECW’s Balls Mahoney. This was not Balls’ first appearance for WWE though. He was a fairly prolific jobber under his real name, Jon Rechner
1997 was a very interesting year in the history of the WWF. A very clear transition from the cartoon era into the Attitude Era with mixed results along the way. Today we look at a storyline that dominated much of 1997, the battle between Farooq, Crush and Savio Vega and their respective factions – and latterly The Truth Commission – during the Gang Warz.
