One of the greatest and most successful characters in all of WCW and in professional wrestling during the 1990’s, was “The Crow” version of Sting. For years, Sting was a very popular and charismatic character. He had the bleached blonde Brian Bosworth-esque hair cut, the colorful face paint and neon tights. Happy new year! Well, the day has finally arrived; today marks the end of our 1997 timeline. It sounds like a cliché to say that all previous Meanwhile, in WCW posts have been building towards this one, but they really have. This week WCW reached its zenith by presenting Starrcade 1997, the highest grossing pay per view the company ever produced. The show featured the culmination of an 18 month storyline involving Sting and Hollywood Hogan. So, for the final time, let’s get down to business in this week’s Meanwhile, in WCW…

IT’S CHRISTMAS! Compliments of the season to one and all, however our 1997 timeline hasn’t quite reached the big day yet. With the holiday season almost upon us in 2017, it was a similar story back in 1997 too. Christmas brings a lot of traditions but one that is a sure-fire way to make people of a certain age feel even older is a big movie release! One of the big movies out in 1997 this week was the 18th James Bond film; Tomorrow Never Dies, staring Pierce Brosnan. Yes folks, that was 20 years ago! T’is the season, and funnily enough it was this time 20 years ago too. However, one man who was not full of Christmas cheer in 1997 was Golden State Warrior’s shooting guard Latrell Sprewell. He started his week by attacking his own coach at a practice session and by Friday he found himself suspended from the NBA for a year and his $23.7 million contract terminated.
