The Top Five Ugliest Title Belts

Rob Faint

Picture the scene- you wrestle for a top promotion, you defeat all contenders, you score a match with the champion, you win the match, and the referee hands you….one of the ugliest title belts of all time. This article looks at some of the worst-looking championship belts of all time.

For this list I left out many of the smaller regional titles: that list could be a mile long. The belts I am including are well known frequently seen titles. Let the debate begin!

Grappling With Tragedy: Dr. Destruction

Brian Damage

Grappling with Tragedy is a series of articles that deal with unfortunate, tragic incidents that have occurred throughout the history of professional wrestling. It is unlike the ‘Wrestling with Sin’ series that deals more with the seedier side of wrestling like arrests, murders and suicides. Grappling looks more at particular tragic incidents that have in some instances altered pro wrestling in some way.

Memories of watching wrestling back in the 60’s

I can still recall the Saturday afternoon that I stumbled upon a broadcast of Championship Wrestling from Georgia on WTBS. After being raised on years of WWWF product, the product from Georgia smacked of a realism that I had never been exposed to. What I really liked was the announcer: Gordon Solie. He never raised his voice but spoke in an even controlled manner. He called the action as he saw it and he seemed to have a through understanding of human anatomy. There also was his trademark of referring to some one that was busted open as wearing “a crimson mask.” The fact that various wrestlers bleed frequently was something that impressed me as well. The talent pool was completely different than that of the WWWF. Instead of time filling matches with various jobbers and their opponents, Championship Wrestling from Georgia showed matches that were filmed on location from various locations. Simply seeing this footage added a necessary element of realism that was missing from the programming I was used to.

Wrestling With Sin: 465

Brian Damage

This is the 465th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Deja View: Before There Were Sites Like OnlyFans, There Was Wrestling Vixxxens

Brian Damage

Professional wrestling can be a very cyclical business. Many times you could be watching a match, a gimmick or a storyline and think to yourself…”I have seen this before.” Sometimes, you may be right, as many things in wrestling do get recycled over the years. Other times, it just may be something similar to something you saw years ago. In any case, Deja View looks at stuff that may or may not have been re-used in wrestling or something that was simply similar in nature that made you go…”Oh yeah, that’s where I remember that from.”

Wrestling With A Grin The Brighter Side Of The Squared Circle Part XI

Brian Damage

Make no mistake about it, pro wrestling does have a dark side to it. There are hundreds upon hundreds of stories about the dark and sometimes sinister side as chronicled in my ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. This piece is a direct opposite of that. With every bad story I have shared…there are also positive stories. Stories of wrestlers making it above and beyond the ring. Positive stories to inspire. Pro wrestlers aren’t all drug addicts, scam artists and carny sideshows. They all don’t die at an early age, or are broke and need to wrestle till they die. They don’t necessarily have to get into acting like The Rock or Batista. They don’t have to necessarily switch over to MMA like Brock Lesnar or CM Punk. Some of these stories are just about hard work, dreaming big and doing whatever it takes to succeed. We’ve already covered some stories as chronicled in part 1part 2 , part 3   part 4  part 5 , part 6 , part 7 , part 8 , part 9 and part 10. With that said, let’s look at some positives…
