The If Factor: Ricochet Joins The Hurt Business

The ‘If Factor’ are a series of articles that takes a look at real scenarios in pro wrestling that at one point or another were suggested, planned, considered…but did not get the green light to continue. What would the landscape of professional wrestling look like if these ideas came to fruition?

The If: Ricochet Joins ‘The Hurt Business’ Faction in 2020

Wrestler/manager MVP revealed on social media that in 2020, Vince McMahon allowed him to select who he wanted to be a part of the faction known as ‘The Hurt Business.’ The group already consisted of MVP, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin. When asked who MVP wanted to add to the group, MVP revealed that he chose both Cedrick Alexander and Ricochet. At the time, both Ricochet and Alexander were working as a tag team feuding with MVP and his faction.

MVP said that when asked who he wanted to be a part of the Hurt Business, MVP immediately chose both Alexander and Ricochet to turn heel and become members. McMahon told MVP that he could only choose one wrestler. MVP thought about it and selected Cedrick Alexander over Ricochet. According to MVP, the reasoning was simple. He felt that Alexander would be the one in most need to benefit from a heel run, while MVP believed that with his skill set…Ricochet would become a star on his own.

MVP was correct in that Alexander benefitted greatly by turning heel and joining the Hurt Business. Ricochet, while winning a couple of secondary titles, never truly broke through as a huge star for the company for a variety of reasons. What if MVP chose Ricochet instead to turn heel? Would that in any way change the trajectory of Ricochet’s WWE career? Would it have been better or worse?
