Whatever Happened to Vickie Guerrero?

Brian Damage

She was the wife of a legendary wrestler, who made a career for herself in the wrestling business as a manager and on screen authority figure after her husband died. Today on the blog, we ask…’Whatever Happened to’ Vickie Guerrero?

Vickie Lynn Lara met professional wrestler Eddie Guerrero through mutual friends, who set the two up on a blind date at a nightclub. Vickie and Eddie hit it off and began dating for three years before Vickie announced she was pregnant with Eddie’s child. Eddie’s father…pro wrestler Gory Guerrero insisted the couple get married before the baby was born.

The couple were married in April of 1990…when Vickie was 22 years old. Six months later their first child was born…a daughter they named Shaul. Vickie admittedly was not a fan of professional wrestling before she met Eddie and during their dating years. It wasn’t until after they wed, that Vickie really started to learn and appreciate the wrestling business. Five years after Shaul was born…Vickie gave birth to a second daughter they named Sherilyn.

For the most part, Vickie was a stay at home mother to her two children while Eddie was on the road wrestling all over the world. The couple separated in 2002 and remained estranged for over two years. In that time, Eddie started a relationship with another woman named Tara Mahoney and had a daughter, Kaylie Marie. Eddie and Vickie would ultimately reconcile and Vickie accepted his daughter Kaylie Marie like one of her own children.

In 2005, Vickie Guerrero made her pro wrestling debut in WWE when she was involved in the Eddie/Rey Mysterio feud that saw the two battle for custody of Rey’s son Dominik. During this storyline, Vickie acted as the sympathetic babyface who tried to convince her husband Eddie to not go through with the custody of Dominik. She also interfered in the ladder match between Rey and Eddie…assisting Rey in the victory. Sadly, just a few months later Eddie suddenly passed away.

In 2006, Eddie was inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame and accepting the honor was Vickie along with their daughters. The WWE honored the remainder of Eddie’s contract and in doing so, allowed Vickie to become more prominent in storylines. Her career didn’t really take off until she turned on Rey Mysterio and sided with a heel Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Vickie would go on to become a heel manager with the likes of Edge and his faction of La Familia which also consisted of Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder, Bam Neely and Chavo Jr. During this time, she developed a catchphrase which became synonymous with the heel Vickie character….”ExcuseMe!?” According to Vickie, the phrase was completely adlibbed after she forgot some of the lines of her promo and fans started booing relentlessly. After she said it, Vince McMahon loved it and insisted on using it in every one of her promos moving forward.

Vickie’s gimmick became that of a ‘cougar’, as she managed Dolph Ziggler, Eric Escobar and also became an authority figure by becoming for both Raw and Smackdown at different points in her career. In 2014, after eight years with the company…Vickie announced she was leaving to pursue outside interests. She began a career as a medical office administrator. Despite sporadic return appearances in WWE,,, Vickie returned to wrestling in 2019 with All Elite Wrestling.

She continued her heel persona and managed Nyla Rose, Marina Shafir and Andrade El Idolo. Vickie remained with AEW until 2023 when it was mutually agreed to part ways. So with that…the question remains…whatever happened to Vickie Guerrero?

Vickie remarried a businessman named Kris Benson. She has since retired from her medical administration job and opened up a travel agency called Travel By Vickie. She also does a podcast and has a craft shop. The couple reside in Danbury, Texas. https://www.travelbyvickie.com/

  1. The last I heard about Vickie is that she’s now in a war of words with her daughter claiming her stepfather tried to molest her or something. I don’t know what is going on as it’s just sad.
