Whatever Happened to WCW’s ‘Gorgeous George’?

Brian Damage

She was an exotic dancer that became a star for World Championship Wrestling and other promotions. She was also the girlfriend of ‘The Macho Man’ Randy Savage. Today on the blog we ask…’Whatever Happened to’ Gorgeous George?

Stephanie Bellars got her start in professional wrestling after meeting ‘The Macho Man’ Randy Savage while working at a strip club in Tampa, Florida. The two started dating and Savage offered her the role as his valet in WCW. According to Bellars….the role was originally planned to go to Torrie Wilson. Bellars agreed despite not being a huge wrestling fan.

Randy Savage gave her the name ‘Gorgeous George’ which was a name he had purchased from wrestler Robert Kellum. A name that was originally supposed to go to his brother Lanny Poffo. Gorgeous George aligned with Savage and formed ‘Team Madness’ along with Madusa and ‘Miss Madness’ Nora Greenwald. To prepare for getting physical in the ring, George was trained by Nora Greenwald aka Molly Holly in WWE.

Gorgeous George worked a feud with referee Charles Robinson. George scored a pin on Robinson at Slamboree 1999 pay per view. George left WCW after her breakup with Randy Savage. She accused Savage of being mentally and physically abusive to her. She would eventually land a job with Extreme Championship Wrestling with help from her friend Nora Greenwald. She was Tommy Dreamer’s ‘Secret Weapon’ to battle Francine…but George turned heel on Dreamer.

After her stint in ECW, George appeared for several independent promotions including 3PW, NWS and Lingerie Fighting Championships. She briefly worked for TNA wrestling, but admittedly she was suffering from anxiety and depression. She began touring the countrywith her husband Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein who was a guitarist for ‘The Misfits.’ She had met Doyle while still with WCW. The couple eventually divorced in 2013.

So the question remains…whatever happened to Gorgeous George? Stephanie Bellars legally changed her nae to George Frankenstein after a series of legal battles with Randy Savage over her use of the Gorgeous George name. She still makes occasional wrestling appearances, but for the most part is retired from the business. She drives a truck for a living, but has also become quite the entrepreneur. She wrote her autobiography which has yet to be published. She started her own pickle business and now created her own line of wrinkle cream. She is engaged has a son and a daughter and resides in Alabama.
