This Week in Wrestling 2022 Week 19

Brian Damage

It’s Saturday and today we have ’This Week in Wrestling’, the 19th entry of 2022. Today Brian looks at the up and down, rise and fall career of WWE Hall of Famer Tammy ‘Sunny’ Sytch and shares all the best wrestling content from this week.

Sunrise, Sunset: The Rise and Fall of Sunny

Tammy Sytch was first brought into the wrestling business by her then boyfriend, the late Chris Candido and manager/promoter Jim Cornette. She portrayed a character that idolized Hilary Clinton named Tamara Lynn Fytch. Her combination of beauty and charisma made her an instant star for Cornette’s Smoky Mountain Wrestling promotion. Eventually, her and Candido signed with the WWF and were originally going to be a cheerleading duo, but was ultimately changed to a couple of evil personal trainers named Skip and Sunny of ‘The Bodydonnas.’

Sytch became a breakout star of that pairing and eventually branched out to managing other teams like the Smoking Gunns, the Godwinns and LOD 2000. She also briefly managed Farooq Asad aka Ron Simmons. Sunny was being utilized more and more as a backstage interviewer, color commentator and a sexy personality involved in various segments. She was a true superstar for the company.

In 1996, Sunny was named America Online’s most downloaded celebrity. She was on posters, magazines and various other pieces of WWF merchandise. While Sunny’s WWF career couldn’t get any brighter, she was loathed by some backstage. Her affair with Shawn Michaels was one of the catalysts to the problems between HBK and Bret Hart. She had run ins with another female personality in Sable and her attitude/ego was becoming problematic. No shows and suspected drug and alcohol abuse eventually led to her firing and her and her boyfriend Candido went to other promotions like ECW and WCW.

The Wrestling With Sin series has chronicled numerous issues and incidents involving Tammy Sytch throughout the years. Whether it was personal issues with promoters, wrestlers, other females, drug and alcohol related problems, doing a porn movie and her numerous arrests…Sytch has constantly been the subject of dirt sheets for years.

She did some jail time for traffic related incidents and when she was released from prison…seemed committed to clean up her act. She started an Onlyfans account and it was believed to be doing very well. The bottom seemed to fall out when she was accused of attacking her boyfriend with a pair of scissors…but again…got off practically unscathed. Then, the latest incident had her involved in yet another traffic related incident…this time a crash that killed a 75 year old man. Reports have it that her blood/alcohol level was 3 1/2 times more than the legal limit. She was arrested, but allowed to post bail that let her free.

Former WWE head trainer Bill DeMott, who lost a daughter to a drunk driver…called for her to be put back in jail and have her removed from the WWE’s Hall of Fame. WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry also echoed her removal from the Hall of Fame. Sytch even got into a back and forth tirade with DeMott over the incident and she maintains her innocence. Jim Cornette who helped discover her and has usually been one of her staunchest supporters….has had enough of her escapades and says she belongs in prison. Sytch is still out and about on social media plugging her Onlyfans site like nothing has happened.

She is staring at a possible prison sentence of 30 years for the death of that man. Some family members have also been vocal about her issues and that maybe prison is the answer. It really is a sad state of affairs all around. She is a danger to herself and the public around her. A truly hard fall for one of the most energetic, charismatic and enjoyable characters in wrestling.

  1. Honestly, I don’t give a fuck about Tammy Sytch. I hope she stays in prison and rots. She is a horrible person with no sense of compassion and never takes responsibility for anything. Solomonster said it earlier this year that for all of her troubles. She will never change and was likely to kill someone. Alas, she did and that family should go after every penny she has. She is beyond saving and prison won’t really help her at all. When she dies, it wouldn’t be a tragedy but rather… good riddance. The only good thing about her in prison is that people won’t have to worry about her driving under the influence with a suspended license again.

      • Exactly. When I read she was released on bail. I was angry knowing that if she was behind the wheel again. She would kill someone. A kid probably and yet she would still make claims she had a seizure and it was the kid’s fault. What that judge did is a rare moment of the justice system finally working.

      • Agreed, she belongs in jail and now that her bail was revoked….I don’t think we’ll be seeing her for a very long time.

  2. An example of how drugs and alcohol can ruin a life. ‘Sunny’ could have enjoyed beyond celebrity status with the trajectory she was on in the 90s. Definitely a dark side of the ring story.

  3. Bond is revoked and she is now in jail. Now she needs prison for a very long time. She will not, does not, cannot learn. She cannot give up drugs or running her mouth. She has ruined her life and ended the life of another. Why she has not been put away before is a mystery. This has to be the end and she needs to go away.
