Wrestling With Sin: 6ty 8ight

Brian Damage

This is the 68th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker side of professional wrestling. Many of these stories involve such topics as sex, greed, drugs, arrests and sometimes….even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series… we do not condone or condemn the alleged involved. We are simply retelling these stories that have been told throughout the years.

Civil War-drobe

In April of 2015, former wrestling valet and interviewer…Missy Hyatt was arrested on grand theft charges. According to reports, Hyatt allegedly stole a Civil War reenactment jacket that was estimated to cost around $10,000. Hyatt had turned herself in to police and was later released.

According to Missy Hyatt, it was all a big misunderstanding. Hyatt alleged that someone left the jacket in her rental car and when drove away with it not realizing the jacket was in her car. Hyatt had this to say about the entire incident….

“When this goes to court, it will be laughed at/thrown out/or bumped down to a civil matter. There is a moral to the story, do not accidentally leave stuff in any vehicle that I’m turning in. Do not leave anything with me. Failure to do so will result in me being arrested.”

An Old Knives Tale

While visiting friends backstage at a wrestling show in the Carolinas, wrestler Sonny King noticed a rowdy individual who was roughing up security. King stepped in to try and help security and the individual pulled out a knife and began stabbing King repeatedly.

When it was all said and done, King received stab wounds to his arms, head, back and chest. Sonny King would survive the attack, but would spend the next 5 weeks in a local hospital’s intensive care unit. Promoter Jim Crockett Jr. helped Sonny with medical expenses while he was in recovery.

In March of 2011, lucha libre star Emilio Fabian Hernandez de Leon aka Fabian El Gitano (The Gypsy) was found dead in his apartment by members of his family. El Gitano’s body was lying on the floor with multiple alcohol bottles all over the room. Mexican police said that it appeared that El Gitano suffered a severe blunt force trauma to his head causing his death.

Several years earlier, El Gitano was shot in the head after avoiding a kidnapping attempt and survived. Witnesses said that they saw El Gitano and another male individual drinking heavily on the night he was found dead. The witnesses also said that they saw the two get into a heated argument before going their separate ways. Conflicting reports by Mexican news outlets have said his death was ruled a suicide and some have said it was ruled a homicide. El Gitano was just 39 years old and the case is still unsolved.

Don’t Meth Around

A wife and husband, who were in involved in independent pro wrestling were arrested in 2010 for allegedly having a meth lab in their home. They were known on the Tennessee indie circuit as Thorn and Kandy. According to the Kingsport Times news, it all started when the wife Kandy was pulled over on a routine traffic stop for speeding. It was then that police officers noticed boxes of Sudafed and batteries (Ingredients for making the drug Meth) in her car.

A subsequent search of the couples home allegedly found a small meth lab in a closet. They had three small children who were in the home and were temporarily taken away by Child Protective Services. No word on the outcome of this case, but Thorn is once again wrestling on the indie circuits.

Reid Between The Lines

The youngest child of the legendary 16 time world champion Ric Flair and fellow wrestler Reid had a dark history with the law. Reid Flair was arrested multiple times in a four year span. Some of the arrests involved driving while impaired, assault and battery, possession of heroin and possession of other drug paraphernalia.

He overdosed twice in 2011 from his drug abuse and sadly passed away at the young age of 25 from a deadly mixture of heroin and pain killers in 2013.

Penis Envy

Former TNA and current Lucha Underground wrestler Joey Ryan recently went viral with his penis of all things. While Ryan has never actually revealed his “junk” in a wrestling match…he does use it was a weapon of sorts to help defeat opponents in the ring. The porn website was so impressed with his penis plex maneuver, they have now become his sponsor.

Joey Ryan not only renamed his move the YouPorn Penis Plex…he now hosts a show on YouPorn as well.

  1. I personally find Joey Ryan’s schtick to be crass and uneccesarilly vulgar. I have no respect for him at all.

And Reid Flair..it’s a shame that drugs got a hold of him and wrecked his life. 25 years old, same age as David Von Erich when he died in Tokyo in 1984. Way too damned young, they were still just kids. Heartbreaking.
