The If Factor: Brock Lesnar Joining TNA in 2007

The ‘If Factor’ are a series of articles that takes a look at real scenarios in pro wrestling that at one point or another were suggested, planned, considered…but did not get the green light to continue. What would the landscape of professional wrestling look like if these ideas came to fruition?

The If: Brock Lesnar Joins TNA Wrestling

In an earlier edition of ‘The If Factor,’ we discussed the possibility of Paul Heyman joining TNA back in 2009. Two years before that transpired…one of Heyman’s biggest protégés in the ‘Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar offered up his services to Dixie Carter’s Total Non Stop Action.

Kurt Angle revealed that back in 2007, Brock made a call to Angle who was one of TNA’s biggest stars at the time. Brock asked Angle how much he was making working for TNA. Kurt revealed to Brock what he was making and Lesnar told Angle, if Dixie could match that pay or come close to it, he would sign with the promotion.

TNA was definitely interested in Lesnar, but once Kurt went to Dixie with Brock’s proposal, the deal was dead in the water. Apparently, TNA did not think Brock was worth that type of money and wanted him to come in on a cheaper deal. That of course, never happened and Brock eventually made his way back to WWE. According to Jeff Jarrett, working with the Carter family could be very frustrating. The Carters wanted big names and to compete with WWE, and promised to open the check books for that type of talent, but when it came time to pay…the Carters usually balked.

So what if Dixie and family agreed to pay Lesnar what he wanted? Could Brock Lesnar have made a difference for the company? Was Brock a big enough name to attract viewers and be the man in TNA?

  1. I think Brock coming to TNA would’ve been awesome. He would not only have rematches with Kurt Angle, he would have new opponents like Sting, Samoa Joe, and AJ Styles.

  2. It wouldn’t have lasted long, about as long as the Carter’s checks kept clearing before he bounced. He would’ve had the opportunity to work with guys like Samoa Joe & AJ Styles in their prime, Daniels, an entire X-Division to mow through, Kurt, etc. It would’ve been fun to see, but it definitely wouldn’t have lasted long. Not even a full calendar year I bet.
